Riverdale, NY –Wagner raced out to leads of 5-0 after 21 minutes and 8-1 at halftime en route to a 14-9 victory at Manhattan on Friday night, improving to 2-0 on the season, and will now look for its first 3-0 start since 2001 when the Seahawks host Saint Joseph's on Sun., Feb., 24 at 1:00 pm.

Freshman attacker Kimmy Tumolo (Mullica Hill, NJ/ Clearview) registered a hat trick to pace the Seahawks while sophomore attacker Jessica Mills (Vernon, NJ/ Vernon Township), freshman midfielder Taylor Pastore (Baldwinsville, NY/ C.W. Baker), freshman attacker Tori McGrath (Albany, NY/ Bethlehem Central), and junior midfielder Michela Galante (Maplewood, NJ/ Columbia) tallied two goals apiece.

Mills added two assists to her two-goal outing to finish with a team-high four points. In two games, the reigning Northeast Conference (NEC) Player of the Week, who had six goals and three assists in the season-opening win over Delaware St. on Feb. 16, has eight goals and five assists for a team-leading 13 points.

Freshman goalie Katie Ferraro (Owings Mill, MD/ McDonogh) had seven saves in goal in improving to 2-0 between the pipes.

Galante triggered a game-opening 5-0 Wagner run by finding the back of the net on an unassisted goal 2:40 into the contest. Freshman Stephanie Peterson (Vernon, NJ/ Vernon Township) made it 2-0 at 21:56 off an assist by sophomore Shelby Steadman (Burlington, NJ/ Holy Cross. This tally was followed by consecutive tallies from McGrath, Galante and another by McGrath, which made it 5-0 at the 9:04 mark.

The Jaspers would notch their first goal at 5:48 by Claire Roediger, her first of a team-high three goals, to make it 5-1. The Seahawks responded by closing the half with three consecutive goals to make it 8-1 at intermission. In the second half, the Green & White notched two quick goals on free position shots by freshman Shea Gegan (Manasquan, NJ/ Manasquan) and Tumolo, the latter at 25:22, which expanded the lead to 10-1.

Manhattan would then rally, reeling off the next four goals to close the deficit to 10-5 with 17:22 left to play. The Jaspers got no closer than five the rest of the way as the lead fluctuated between five and six goals the rest of the way.

Wagner outshot Manhattan 28-22 and led in draw controls 14-12 while the Jaspers held a slight edge in groundballs, 11-10. A key statistic in the game was the disparity in free position shots as the Seahawks were successful on 4-of-5 attempts while the Wagner defense limited Manhattan to 1-of-6 on free position shots.
