Jessica Mills Named NEC Women’s Lacrosse Player of the Week

Somerset, NJ - Sophomore attacker Jessica Mills (Vernon Township, NJ/ Vernon) kicked off the 2013 season with a bang, exploding for six goals and three assists in carrying Wagner to a 21-2 triumph over Delaware State on February 16 and for her efforts has been named Northeast (NEC) Conference Player of the Week the league office announced today.
 
The six goals, three assists and nine points all represent career highs for the crafty 5-4 Garden State native. Mills struck for the Seahawks' initial goal of the season just 1:24 into the game when she blasted home the first of her six goals. Later in the half, Mills tallied two goals in a span of 13 seconds to stake the Seahawks to a 14-1 halftime lead and went to record another hat trick in half number two. Mills' six goals are the most by a Seahawk since Carolyn Clark tickled twine seven times vs. Monmouth (4/13/12).
 
As a freshman in 2012, Mills recorded 12 points for the season on four goals and eight assists. Her previous career high in goals was two (vs. Liberty, 3/10/12) and her high output in assists is four at Saint Francis U (4/22/12). The four-assist effort at Saint Francis (PA) was Wagner's 2012 season finale, which gives her 13 points (six goals and seven assists) in her last two games played.
 
The Seahawks are next in action on Friday, February 22 when they travel to Manhattan College in a 6:00 pm start before returning home to meet Saint Joseph's on Sunday, February 24 at 1:00 pm.

Robert Morris, 13-7 winners over Detroit Mercy on Saturday, swept the NEC Defensive and Rookie of the Week awards. Goalie Kaitlin Pentz stopped six shots on the afternoon helped keep the Titans off the scoreboard for the game's first 26:20 as the Colonials built an early 7-1 lead  in copping Defense Player of the Week honors. Freshman midfielder Brittany Byerly posted four points in her collegiate debut for Robert Morris, tallying two goals while handing out two assists.
