And a Freshman Shall Lead Them
In the first two games of her college career, freshman point guard
Jasmine Nwajei has shown why she was such a coveted and highly-recruited prospect. The 5-8 Nwajei signaled her collegiate arrival by scoring the first five points of the game en route to a 19-point performance vs. No. 7 Kentucky. In her next outing, she tossed in 20 points in helping Wagner to a comeback victory at Monmouth. She enters the Iona game averaging 19.5 points per game, which tied for fourth in the NEC and is tops among all league freshmen.
Peck Production
Dynamic sophomore left-handed guard
Jordyn Peck, a member of the 2012-2013 All-NEC freshman team when she averaged 10.1 points per outing, tossed in 12 of her team-high 21 points down the stretch in leading Wagner to an impressive 70-57 win at Monmouth (11/14). The 21-point outburst, which included 3-of-7 shooting from downtown, was one shy of her career hgh and she enters the Iona game second on the team in scoring at 14.5 points per game.
Ugo's Block Party
By halftime of Wagner's game at Monmouth on Nov. 14, redshirt sophomote center
Ugo Nwaigwe had already set a career high with five blocked shots. By game's end, the 6-3 Nwaigwe had a career high eight blocks. Her previous career best came last time out, a three-block affair, vs. Kentucky. Last season, Nwaigwe was sidelined with a foot injury after nine games last season, and had a total of five blocks for the year. The eight blocks registered by Nwaigwe tied for the third-highest in school history and are the most since Ali Ridge came up with eight blocks vs. Manhattan (12/28/04). Ridge and Meredith Kerns hold the Seahawk single-game record for blocked shots with 10.

Blais, Peck Lead Returnees, Amorosa, Williamson Tabbed Captains
The Seahawks were 3-26 (2-16 NEC) a year ago and return two of their top three leading scorers in junior forward
Stephanie Blais (Sherbrooke, Quebec/ Montmorency) and sophomore guard
Jordyn Peck (Shaker Heights, OH/Shaker Heights), who burst on to scene by averaging 10. 2 points per game while earning All-NEC Freshman Team honors. Senior forward
Laura Amorosa (Kirkland, Quebec/Phillips Academy) will serve as co-captain along with her roommate and senior manager,
Melanie Williamson. A top-rated guard out of Baltimore, MD, Williamson's playing career ended prior to her freshman season in 2010-2011 due to a heart ailment, but she has remained an integral member of the program during her time at Wagner. Redshirt sophomore center
Ugo Nwaigwe (Valley Stream, NY/Valley Stream South) has performed well throughout the preseason, while redshirt freshman
