Wagner Comeback Bid Falls Short In Loss To Mount St. Mary's

Box Score

Emmitsburg, MD – Freshman Jordyn Peck (Shaker Heights, OH/ Shaker Heights) led the Seahawks with 15 first-half points and a game-high 20, but a second-half comeback attempt fell short in a 73-58 loss to Mount St. Mary's at Knott Arena on Monday night. In the defeat, the Seahawks fall to 2-17 and 1-7 in NEC play, while Mount improves to 9-10 and 5-3 in conference games.

Peck was one of three Seahawks in double figures, as redshirt-senior Chanez Robinson (Newark, NJ/ Malcolm X. Shabazz) and sophomore Stephanie Blais (Sherbrooke, Quebec/ Montmorency) each added 11 points on the night, with Robinson grabbing a season-high eight rebounds.

The first 12 minutes of the contest were back-and-forth, with the Seahawks pulling it to 18-17 with 8:08 to play in the half on a pair of Peck free throws. From there, Mount went on a 23-4 run over 8:00, going ahead 41-21 in the process. Peck hit a three just shy of the halftime buzzer to make the score 41-24 heading into the locker room.

Mount extended the lead to 25 on two occasions in the opening minutes of the second half before the Seahawks began to chip away at the Mountaineer lead. Wagner went on a 24-10 run over a span of 9:53, with Robinson's free throw at the 4:46 mark of the second half cutting the deficit to 63-52.

Blais hit a trio of three-pointers from the left corner during the run, with Peck and sophomore Jacqui Thompson (Southampton, PA/ St. Basil Academy) also adding threes.

A pair of Robinson free throws at 2:35 cut the lead to 66-56, which was the closest the Seahawks would come during the comeback attempt. Seven Mount free throws and a Robinson basket brought the game to its final margin of 73-58.

Wagner shot 9-for-14 from outside on the night, including 5-for-6 in the second half. Sophomore Shawn-Marie Heiliger (Charlotte, NC/ Charlotte Catholic) hit a three-pointer at 8:25 of the first half for her first basket of the season.

The Seahawks return to action on Saturday, Feb. 2 at 1:00 pm when the Green & White host Quinnipiac at Spiro Sports Center.
