Staten Island, NY - In many ways,
Dan Ford is living the dream, or, as he puts it, “I've got the best of both worlds.”
The former St. Peter's High School standout is one of seven Staten Islanders on the Wagner football roster. He's at home when he's in the Union sharing a meal with friends, or when he's on the practice field, in class or when he's literally at home, just a few miles up Clove Road.
The lifelong Westerleigh native isn't the biggest Seahawk, not the fleetest of foot. But he's got a knack, a knack for finding seems in opposing defenses and a knack for hanging onto the ball, even when in traffic. In addition to his soft hands, a pair of mitts as sure as those belonging to any Seahawk receiver, he possesses an encyclopedic knowledge of the playbook.
After seeing action mostly on the jayvee team as a freshman, the 5-10, 185-pound Ford emerged as a steadying force in 2010, hauling in 12 receptions for 91 yards, including an 18-yard touchdown pass vs. Bryant (10/2). In the 10 games he played, Ford caught at least one pass in nine, highlighted by a career-high three-catch effort in the 22-16 double-overtime win at Georgetown (10/9). For his career, Ford has 18 receptions for 123 yards.
The sociology major and two-time NEC Fall Academic Honor Roll member is hoping the Seahawks can reverse last season's 24-10 outcome (10/8) on Grymes Hill and make it two straight over the Hoyas in our nation's capital when Wagner and Georgetown clash at 1:00 pm on Saturday.
Below is a list of the seven Seahawks who don't have to cross a single bridge to find their way home.
