LIU-Brooklyn jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead before Wagner came storming back with three straight goals of its own, the first by Petrik and the next two by Clark. From the point forward, the margin between the teams was never more than two goals. The last two-goal lead either team held in the opening half was when the Blackbirds' Shakoya Smith hit the net with 8:26 to go in the first half, putting LIU-Brooklyn on top 6-4. With Wagner trailing 7-6, sophomore midfielder
Michela Galante (Maplewood, NJ/ Maplewood) nailed an unassisted goal just before the horn blew, tying the game 7-7 at halftime.
The teams traded the next three goals, with LIU-Brooklyn's Katie Williams notching a tally at 25:35 to give the Blackbirds a 9-8 lead. The Seahawks then rattled off a 3-0 run on a pair of Petrik goals, followed by a Galante score at 21:06 that gave Wagner its biggest lead of the game at 11-9. Momentum quickly shifted LIU's way, however, as the Blackbirds ran off three consecutive goals of their own, the third coming on a Smith free position attempt, that put Wagner behind by a 12-11 count.
Undaunted, the Seahawks answered with a goal by sophomore attacker
Sam Morin (Rockville Centre, NY/ South Side) with 3:00 to play in regulation to tie the game at 12-12 and eventually force overtime.
Clark put Wagner on top 13-12 in the first OT but the Blackbirds tied it at 13-13 on a Smith goal with 2:27 left. That's the way the score remained until Kovar sank the game-winner with 2:15 to go in the second overtime.
Wagner held a 32-27 edge in shots, a 19-11 advantage in draw controls while LIU-Brooklyn won the ground ball battle 23-18. Gina Haber saved 13 shots in goal for the Blackbirds while freshman goalkeeper
