Philadelphia, PA - The Wagner women's lacrosse team will take to the road for the first time this season when the Seahawks battle the Hawks of Saint Joseph's at 1:00 pm on Saturday.
Saint Joseph's marks the third consecutive Keystone State opponent for Wagner as the Seahawks are 0-2 on the young season following home losses to Villanova and Lafayette. Both combatants will be seeking their first win of the year as Saint Joseph's is 0-1, having dropped an 18-10 home decision to Drexel.
The Seahawks are paced offensively by senior attacker
Carolyn Clark (Syracuse, NY/ Westhill) who slammed home five goals in the Feb. 18 season opener vs. the Wildcats, an effort which tied her career high and earned her
NEC Player of the Week honors. Against Lafayette, sophomore attacker
Sam Morin (Rockville Centre, NY/ South side) and senior midfielder
Melanie Garces (San Diego, CA/ Westview) tallied two goals apiece while junior attacker
Erika Bulken (Baldwinsville, NY/ C.W. Baker) came up with an astounding 10 draw controls.
In addition to her 10 draw controls, Bulken wound up with two points on one goal and an assist while senior midfielder Deneida McCullough (Freeport, NY/ Freeport) added a goal for Wagner. Defensively, sophomore
Katy Bender (Cherry Hill, NJ/ Cherry Hill West) made her presence felt with three ground balls and two caused turnovers.
Sophomore
Morgan Roach (Syracuse, NY/ Westhill) and freshman
Shannon Sweeney (Madison, NJ/ Madison) combined to save 10 shots in goal for the Seahawks. Sweeney came on late in the first half and acquitted herself well in her first collegiate game, stopping seven shots over the game's final 35:44.
This will mark the eighth all-time meeting between Wagner and Saint Joseph's and the Hawks have won all seven previous meetings.
