Box Score BOX SCORE

Bethlehem, PA –
Sophomore Stephanie Blais (Sherbrooke, Quebec/ Montmorency) was in double-figures for the fourth time in five games, but it was not enough to lead the Wagner College women's basketball team past a Lafayette team that scored 20 of its points from the free throw line in a 64-45 loss to the Leopards at Lehigh University's Stabler Arena on Sunday afternoon.

With the loss, the Seahawks fall to 1-4 on the season, while Lafayette improves to 2-4.

Blais scored 11 points on the night, marking the third time this season she has led or tied for the team lead in scoring. Fellow sophomore Ugo Nwaigwe (Valley Stream, NY/ Valley Stream South) pulled down a career-high eight rebounds in the defeat, with senior Veronick Fournier (Gatineau, Quebec/ Montmorency) grabbing seven for the third time this season.

The Seahawks scored first off of a deep three-pointer from senior Marie-Laurence Archambault (Montreal, Quebec), marking the fourth time in five games this season that the Green & White have scored the first basket of the contest. Less than a minute later, Lafayette would tie the game, putting an end to the only Wagner lead of the night.

The Leopards jumped out to a 10-point lead with just over a minute remaining in the half, in an opening stanza controlled by Lafayette's top two forwards, Danielle Fiacco and Emily Homan, who combined for 20 of the team's 30 first half points. An Archambault three in the final minute cut the halftime deficit to 30-23.

Following an offensive rebound and putback by freshman Emily Adams (Cumming, GA/ Buford) at the 12:21 mark of the second half, the Leopards ran off an 18-2 run, extending the lead to a game-high 25 points, at 61-36. The Seahawks would then score nine of the game's final 12 points to close out the game.

Wagner returns to action on Saturday, Dec. 1, when the Green & White return home after four games away from Spiro Sports Center to host Iona. The game begins at 4:00 PM.
