Daniel Zaccariello (Staten Island, NY / St. Joseph By The Sea) recorded his third top-10 finish of the year, while helping Wagner to a seventh-place showing at the annual 8K METS Championship at historic Van Cortlandt Park. Iona's Ethan Heywood won the individual crown with a mark of 23:53.71.
NYU outdistanced the 12-team field with 50 points. Fordham was second (68 points), followed by Columbia (78 points), the Gaels (111 points), St. Francis (NY) (136 points), Rutgers (151 points) with the Seahawks (184 points) in seventh. Manhattan (209 points) was eighth with Seton Hall (247 points) ninth, followed by Fairleigh Dickinson (263 points), St. Peter's (293 points) and Hofstra (372 points).
Zaccariello continued his outstanding season by crossing the line sixth out of 111 runners with a time of 26:33.01. Finishing second on the team and 23rd overall in 27:18.00 was sophomore
James Naglieri (Stony Point, NY / North Rockland). Not far behind Naglieri was classmate
Jacob Malakoff (Tasmania, Australia / Friends / Hofstra), who placed 33rd with a mark of 27:41.07.
Rounding out the scorers for the Green & White were sophomore
Timothy Mendez (West Haverstraw, NY / North Rockland) in 80th (29:56.32) and freshman
Darius Moulton (Brisbane, Australia / Gregory Terrace) in 87th (30:24.57).
Wagner returns to action next Saturday, October 13 when the Seahawks travel to Fairfield, CT, for the Father O'Neil Invitational.
