North Florida Defeats Wagner 12-0

Senior Jon Lucas drew two walks
BOX SCORE

Jacksonville, FL -
North Florida scored 10 runs over the first three frames en route to a 12-0 victory over Wagner at Harmon Stadium. The Ospreys improve to 7-5 with the victory while the Seahawks fall to 1-7.

The Green & White only managed one hit – a single off the bat of senior Joe Conforti (Staten Island, NY / Farrell) - but was able to draw a season-high six walks after previously drawing just 14 free passes over the previous seven games. Seniors Seth Boyd (Perth Amboy, NJ / Perth Amboy) and Jon Lucas (Hackettstown, NJ / Hackettstown) each recorded two walks on tonight.

North Florida struck for four first-inning runs on three hits in assuming a 4-0 lead.

Wagner mounted a threat in the top of the second inning when Boyd and Lucas each drew walks. Unfortunately, Osprey starting pitcher Tommy Organ rose to the challenge. After retiring the next two batters, Boyd stole third on the ensuing play while Lucas tried to get hung up long enough to allow Boyd to try and take home, but the Seahawks were unable to execute the play as Lucas was tagged out on the base-paths.

North Florida extended the lead to 7-0 with three runs in the bottom of the second inning, all of which came with two outs, while chasing sophomore RHP Christian Rautenstrauch (Charlotte, NC / Providence Day) from the game.

The Ospreys added three runs in the bottom of the third inning, extending the lead out to 10-0 while for all intents and purposes putting the game away.

The Green & White pitching staff then buckled down, allowing North Florida just two more runs over the final five frames. Freshman RHP Matt Gavin (St. James, NY / Smithtown East) entered in the fourth inning and struck out two while yielding just one run over 4.0 solid innings of relief.

Rautenstrauch (0-1) was the pitcher of record, yielding seven runs in 1.2 innings of work. Organ (1-0) struck out eight while walking four over 5.0 hitless innings.

North Florida notched 14 hits, highlighted by three-hit performances from Alex Bacon (3-5; 2 RBI and Corey Bass (3-5; 3 RBI).
