Cody Isdaner (Gladwyne, PA/ Episcopal Academy) equaled his career high with four goals and added two assists and freshman goalie
Nicholas Gibaldi (Rocky Point, NY/ Rocky Point) recorded a career-high 19 saves but it was not enough as Manhattan ran past Wagner 15-8 in men's lacrosse action.
With the loss, the Seahawks fall to 0-6 on the season while the Jaspers improve to 1-7 on the season. The key statistic in the game came on face-offs where the Jaspers held and overwhelming 21-of-25 advantage.
Manhattan jumped out to an early 3-0 lead before Isdaner,who leads the Seahawks in goals (15), assists (5) and points (20). rocketed home a shot with 32 seconds left in the first quarter to put the Seahawks on the board. With 9:19 left in the second quarter, Isdaner fed freshman attack
Sam Morrissey (Long Valley, NJ/ West Morris Central) who found the net to draw the Seahawks' to within 3-2. This is as close as Wagner would get as the Jaspers would close the half with two goals to go up 5-2 at intermission, before opening the second half with another pair of goals in building a sizeable 7-2 edge.
With 10:12 left in the third quarter, sophomore midfielder Colin O'Rourke (Worcester, MA/ St. John's Shrewsbury) notched a goal off of Isdaner's second assist of the game, to make it a 7-3 game. The teams then alternated the next seven goals, with the final tally in this exchange coming from junior attack
Mike Hurley (Billerica, MA/ Billerica) with 2:12 left in the third quarter that made it an 11-6 game.
Manhattan would go on to score five of the last seven goals of the game in fashioning the 15-8 win.
The Jaspers featured a balanced offensive attack, with Justin Jensen leading the way with a hat trick, while Brett Miranda, Marcel Godino, Tyler Jarvis and Brian McGrath notched two goals apiece. Rich Akapnitis came up with 15 saves in goals for the Jaspers.
In addition to Isdaner's four-goal outing, O'Rourke added two tallies for the Seahawks while Morrissey and Hurley chipped in with one goal apiece. In addition to Isdaner's two assists, Wagner also received assists from Morrissey and junior midfielder
William Hedges (Shoreham, NY/ Longwood).
Manhattan out-shot Wagner 43-38 and held a 25-18 edge in ground balls.
Wagner is next in action on Saturday, March 26 when the Seahawks play host to the Hawks of Hartford in a 2:00 p.m. face-off.
