Charlottesville, VA - Following a gutsy performance that resulted in a 73-72 overtime loss to New Hampshire on Dec. 21, the Wagner College women's basketball team will compete in the two-game Marriott Cavalier Classic at the University of Virginia, facing the host Cavaliers (10-2) tonight  before meeting either Elon or UMass on Thursday, December 29 (4:30 pm or 7:00 pm).

About the Seahawks - Wagner has lost four games in a row, but the Seahawks are coming off their best statistical outing of the season,  notching a host of seasons highs in a tough 73-72 overtime loss to New Hampshire at home on Dec 21. The Green & White, which led by as many as 11 points in the second half, turned in season highs in points (72), field goals made (29), assists (22), blocked shots (11) and three-pointers made. In addition, the .492 shooting percentage was the Seahawks' second-best effort from the floor this season (.545 vs. Columbia – 11/16) and the .364 shooting percentage from three-point range was also second-best on the year (.545 vs. Columbia – 11/16).

Fournier Feeling It - Junior guard Veronick Fournier (Gatineau, Quebec/ Montmorency), known throughout her career for her fine defensive play, tenacity and passion, has been feeling it of late on the offensive end as well. The 5-11 Fournier has scored in double figures in three straight games, averaging 13.0 points per game during this stretch with a career-high 17 at Colgate (12/10), 12 at No. 16 Penn St. (12/18) and 10 vs. New Hampshire (12/21) in upping her season average to 6.4 points per game.

Thorpe Comes Up Big - Senior forward Brittney Thorpe (Newport News, VA/ Heritage) was a major factor on both ends of the floor on the interior for the Seahawks last time out vs. New Hampshire, finishing with a season-high 12 points while logging a career-high 32 minutes of playing time. The 6-0 Thorpe shot 6-of-7 from the field, grabbed five rebounds and added two steals.

Thompson Continues To Make Her Mark - One of the top freshmen in the NEC and the league's Rookie of the Week back on Nov. 21, point guard Jacqui Thompson (Southampton, PA/ St. Basil Academy) displayed her usual gritty, gutsy brand of basketball as the 5-3 dynamo added eight points, eight assists and one steal in an energy-packed 34 minutes of action.
