Wagner Women Travel To Lafayette For 4:00 PM Tip In First Round Of Thanksgiving Classic

EASTON, PA - The Wagner College women's basketball team will be looking to improve to 2-3 and snap a two-game slide when the Seahawks square off against Lafayette in the first round of the inaugural Thanksgiving Challenge on Friday, November 25 at 4:00 pm.

Monmouth-Lehigh To Meet in Nightcap; Thanksgiving Classic Resumes on Sunday in Staten Island
In the second game of the Classic, Monmouth will represent the NEC vs. Patriot League member Lehigh at 6:00 pm. The four teams will then reconvene in Staten Island on Sunday, November 27 when Monmouth meets Lafayette at 2:00 pm followed by Wagner hosting Lehigh at 4:00 p.m.

The Series
This will be the seventh meeting between the Seahawks and the Leopards and Lafayette holds a 4-2 lead in the all-time series. The last time these teams met was on Nov. 21, 2006 when the Seahawks came away with a 72-65 home win.

Seahawks, Leopards Both 1-3 On Season, Both Have Lost On Road To BIG EAST Foes By 20 Points
Wagner and Lafayette enter today's meeting with identical 1-3 records and each team has dropped road games to BIG EAST teams by 20- point margins. On November 19, the Leopards were on the short end of a 74-54 decision at Syracuse while Wagner, in its last outing on November 22, lost at St. John's in a defensive-minded game by a 54-34 count..

November 22 - Queens, NY - In a game broadcast on ESPN3 via broadband, BIG EAST member St. John's used a 16-0 run midway through the first half to break open a tight game en route to registering a 54-34 home victory. The Seahawks took an early 11-10 lead before St. John's embarked on its 16-0 run, spanning 9:00, turning that 11-10 deficit into a 26-11 lead with 2:18 to go in the half. When junior forward Marie-Laurence Archambault (Montreal, Quebec/ Montmorency) drained a three-pointer with 2:02 remaining in the half to make it 26-14, it ended a 9:16 scouring drought for the Seahawks. St. John's took a 27-16 lead into halftime and then opened the second half with an 11-0 run, continuing its fine defensively play by holding Wagner scoreless for the first 4:33 of the half in opening a 22-point lead at 38-16 with 15:35 left. For the game, the Seahawks were led by Archambault's team-high nine points which came on 3-of-8 shooting from beyond the arc. Senior center Kelly Clark (Neptune, NJ/ St. Rose) added seven points and a team-high seven rebounds while freshman point guard Jacqui Thompson (Southampton, PA/ St. Basil Academy), the reigning NEC Rookie of the Week, scored six points while handing out a team-high four assists.
