WAGNER'S VICTORY CELEBRATION

Staten Island, NY -

Sacred Heart appeared to be in control with a 63-58 lead following a Callan Taylor jumper with 2:23 left.

Sophomore forward Marie-Laurence Archambault (Montreal, Quebec/ Montmorency) then sparked Wagner's 8-2 game-winning run with an old fashioned three-point play with 1:05 left that drew the Seahawks to within 63-60. Archambault hit a 15-foot baseline jumper and was fouled by Ericka Norman in the process. She then made the free throw and the Seahawks had life. Following a Wagner timeout, Taylor connected on a jumper with 38 seconds left to make it 65-61.

The Pioneers would hurt themselves from the free throw line in crunch time. At the 21-second mark, Norman missed the front end of a one-and-one as the score remained 65-61. Mahoney was fouled driving to the hoop with 14 seconds left and made both free throws to make it a 65-63 game. Cosgrove, an 81-percent shooter from the line on the season coming into the game, was then fouled with 13 seconds left and she too missed the front end of a one-and-one. Clark gathered the rebound as Wagner hurried into the front court.

With five seconds left, Mahoney tossed a pass to Archambault on the right wing who found Clark alone in the right corner. The junior released the ball with one second to go and the ball swished through the net with 0.7 seconds remaining. Sacred Heart was unable to get off a desperation shot as the buzzer sounded, setting off a euphoric celebration by the Wagner players and coaches.

Leading 38-32, the Seahawks got out of the gates quickly in the second half, opening with a 10-6 burst in taking their biggest lead of the game of 10 at 48-38 with 15:08 left to play. Senior forward Ashley Olsen (Staten Island, NY. Notre Dame Academy) tallied five points in the run which was capped by an old fashioned three-point play by Clark.

Taylor then followed with a jumper at 6:21 that gave the Pioneers the 58-56 edge.
