Oakland A's Press Release
Oakland, CA - Reigning American League Rookie of the Year and 2006 graduate
Andrew Bailey has been named to his second-straight All-Star game in as many seasons. Bailey, who was named as a replacement for teammate Trevor Cahill, will be in the bullpen for the AL at the 81st mid-season classic at Angel Stadium of Anaheim on Tuesday, July, 13.
Bailey replaces Cahill as a result of a new rule that prohibits pitchers starting on the Sunday before the game from being on the active roster. The hard-throwing closer was on the AL roster a year ago but did not see any game action.
Serving as the Oakland Athletics' closer for the second-straight season, Bailey has recorded 18 saves in 21 chances while posting a 1.70 ERA, eighth lowest among AL relievers, with 27 strikeouts over 37.0 innings in 35 games out of the bullpen.
Bailey is also just one of three second-year players on the AL roster, joining Cahill and Neftali Perez of the Texas Rangers.
The game will be broadcast live on Fox with coverage starting at 8:00 pm (EST).
