BOX SCORE

Staten Island, NY -
Wagner used a 14-0 run over the first 5:19 of the second half, breaking a halftime tie with the Mount en route to a 64-57 victory at the Spiro Sports Center. The Mountaineers made things interesting late, drawing to one at 58-57 with 52 second remaining, only to see the Green & White rip off six-straight points, providing the final margin.

For the Seahawks, it improves their record to 9-14 and 6-6 in the Northeast Conference (NEC). The victory totals are the most for head coach Gela Mikalauskas in her second stint at Wagner coach and the most since the 2003-2004 squad won 11 and eight, respectively. Mount St. Mary's falls to 8-14 and 4-8 in the NEC.

Junior Megan Mahoney (Staten Island, NY / St. Peter's) hit for a game-high 20 points, on 6-12 shooting, including 3-of-5 from long range, and 5-of-6 from the line while recording seven rebounds, five assists and three steals in 38 minutes of action. Senior Andrea Reed (Pocomoke City, MD / Pocomoke) had a solid night, notching 12 points with four assists and three steals while turning it over just one time in 35 minutes. Additionally she held MSM point guard Hassanah Oliver to six points, on 1-of-6 shooting, with four assists and five turnovers in 35 mintues.

Junior Stephanie McBride (Mechanicville, NY / Catholic Central) rounded out the double-figure scorers with 11 points while classmates Ashley Olsen (Staten Island, NY / Notre Dame Academy) (8 points, 9 rebounds, 4 blocks) and Nyoto Patterson (Teaneck, NJ / Manhattan Center (NY)) (8 points, 7 rebounds) had solid games.

Both teams shot the ball well, but the game was decided by an 11-4 advantage in second-chance points and a 26-18 advantage in points in the paint for the Green & White, which also won the battle of the boards, 38-26, including 11-5 on the offensive end.

Reed, Olsen, McBride and Mahoney combined for Wagner's 14-point spurt to begin the second half. The Mount would not go away though, using a 9-0 run to cut the deficit to four at 53-49 with 3:16 to go. The Seahawks recovered to push lead back out to seven at 58-51 with 1:10 only to see the Mountaineers cut it to one at 58-57 with 52 seconds to go, following a pair of triples. Reed then scored on a fast-break lay-up and the Mountaineers missed a three with Patterson converting on the other end, making it a five-point game while spelling the end of the comeback bid.

Each team forged a big run in the opening half. After Wagner took a 9-5 lead on a three-point jumper by freshman Marie-Laurence Archambault (Montreal, Quebec / Montmorency), the Mount embarked on a 16-2 run, seizing a 21-11 lead capped by a Cassie Cooke three-pointer with 7:24 left in the half. The run, which included a 10-0 spurt, broke an 11-11 tie and was eventually snapped on a layup from Patterson at the 7:00 juncture. Patterson's bucket ignited an 18-8 run, keyed by 10 points from Mahoney, as the Seahawks ended the half with momentum on their side and a 29-29 tie on the scoreboard.

Mount St. Mary's was led by Mary Dunn's 16 points.

Wagner heads to Fairleigh Dickinson on Thursday, February 11. Tip time is slated for 4:00 pm at the Rothman Center.
