Women's Basketball To Host Bryant Tonight At 5:00 PM

COMPLETE NOTES

Staten Island, NY -
After dropping a pair of games on the road, Wagner (9-16; 6-8 NEC) will look to avenge last year's loss to the Bryant Bulldogs (11-14; 8-6 NEC) tonight at 5:00 pm in the Spiro Sports Center. Bryant nearly upset first place Robert Morris the last time out and is playing its first season as a member of NEC. However, the Bulldogs are ineligible to compete in the NEC Tournament as they are in the midst of transitioning to full Division I status.

Road Struggles -
Wagner's 69-56 loss at Monmouth (2/13) was the final road contest for the Green & White, who finished up 3-13 in true road games. The Seahawks will be at home for the final four games of the year and are 5-3 on Staten Island.

The Coaches -
Head coach Gela Mikalauskas is in her 16th season on the Wagner sidelines with a record of 202-245. Mikalauskas was the coach of the 1988-1989 Seahawk squad that won the program's only Northeast Conference (NEC) Championship.

Bryant is led by Mary Burke, who is 268-266 in this her 19th year with the Bulldogs.

The Series -
Bryant won the teams' first meeting last year by a 71-53 score. Wagner shot just 25.7 percent from the floor, including 20.8 percent from beyond the arc.

Scouting Bryant - Bryant sits in fifth place in the NEC at 8-6 and has been extremely competitive in its second season in the Division I ranks. The Bulldogs are led by senior Kelsey O'Keefe, who is averaging 15.4 ppg and 6.4 rpg, both of which lead the team. O'Keefe, the reigning Choice Hotels NEC Player of the Week, scored 33 points the last time out in a narrow two-point loss to Robert Morris. Last year she went for 19 and 10 against the Green & White. Siamone Bennett is second in both scoring (9.8 ppg) and rebounding 6.0 rpg).

Injury Updates - Senior Andrea Reed and freshman Veronick Fournier each missed the last game at Monmouth (2/13) due to injuries are not expected to dress against Bryant. Junior Sha'Ron Harrison has been out the last four games and will miss the rest of the season.

Better Late Than Never -
If you left early in Wagner's 66-54 loss at FDU you might of missed freshman Marie-Laurence Archambault's solid performance. Down 60-40 with just under five minutes remaining, the freshman guard proceeded to score the final 14 Seahawk points on a barrage of three pointers, lay-ups and free throws. During the final 4:49, she was 4-of-4 from the floor and from the free throw line while helping the Green & White mount a late rally.

Olsen Playing Strong-
Junior Ashley Olsen is averaging a team-leading 13.9 ppg and 8.0 rpg over her last seven games, on 46.8 percent shooting (36-77), and has hit for double-figures five times after failing to do so in the previous 11 contests. She had arguably her finest game to date at Monmouth (2/13), recording her fifth double-double of the year with 18 points and 11 rebounds.

In the win at Mount St. Mary's (2/4), Olsen scored 17 points and had 16 points with 13 rebounds in a win over Quinnipiac (1/28) for her fourth double-double of the year. She hit for 19 points, on 7-10 shooting, with five rebounds in a victory over SFNY (1/23).

On the year, Olsen is averaging 9.2 ppg (28th NEC) and 7.6 rpg (4th NEC) while pacing the squad in scoring six times.

Bench Letdown -
Over the last four games the Seahawks' bench has come up flat averaging just 10.3 ppg, far under the season average of 19.3. During that time, the reserves are shooting just 24.2 percent (15-62), including 23.5 percent (4-17) from long distance. During that time, the bench has also recorded its two lowest scoring games of the year.

High-Five - The Seahawks are 8-1 when leading or tied with five minutes to go in the game and 0-15 when trailing.

Key Match-Up - Junior Megan Mahoney vs. Kelsey O'Keefe ... The pair have combined for four of the NEC's five 30-point games this year.

Up Next - Wagner will welcome Central Connecticut State to the Spiro Sports Center on Saturday, February 20 at 3:00 pm. This will be the only meeting between the teams on the season.
