Clark's previous career high was a 27-point outing two games ago at Columbia on Dec. 1. She added seven rebounds and two blocked shots.
Olsen scored all 14 of her points in the opening half as Wagner raced out to a 38-24 halftime lead. Olsen started the game off with a driving layup and NJIT's Kimberly Dweck answered with a jumper to make it 2-2. Olsen then gave the Seahawks the lead for good at 4-2 on a jumper at the 17:42 mark of the opening half. The Olsen jumper triggered an 11-3 run that put Wagner out in front 15-5 and the Seahawks never looked back, holding this double-digit advantage the rest of the game.
Wagner's biggest lead of the game was 19 at 33-14 and it came on a layup by sophomore guard
Veronick Fournier (Gatineau, Quebec/ Montmorency) with 5:10 left in the first half. The closest NJIT would get the rest of the game was 12 when Jessica Gerald hit a layup with 11:03 remaining to make it a 53-41 game.
Fournier played a solid floor game for the Seahawks, dishing out a career-high eight assists while grabbing seven rebounds. Senior guard
Stephanie McBride (Mechanicville, NY/ Catholic Central) tallied eight points and dished and had five assists. Senior guard
Megan Mahoney (Staten Island, NY/ St. Peter's) added six points and eight rebounds while sophomore forward
Marie-Laurence Archambault (Montreal, Quebec/ Montmorency) chipped in with seven points.
Wagner shot exactly 50 percent from the field in both halves. In the first half, the Seahawks were 15-of-30 and in the second half they were 14-of-28. Wagner's stifling defense held NJIT to 35 percent shooting. Wagner held the advantage in the rebounding department by a 43-31 margin. The Highlanders placed three players in double figures led by Gerald's 17. Dweck finished with 15 points while Rayven Johnson chimed in with 11. Despite trailing by double-digits the majority of the game, N JIT attempted only six three-pointers while making two.
The Seahawks are next in action on Saturday, Dec. 11 when they travel to Bethlehem, PA to meet Lehigh in a 7:00 pm tip-off.
NOTES – Clark's 30-point game marked the first time a Seahawk has hit the 30-point plateau since Mahoney had 31 at Saint Francis (PA) on January 4, 2010. For Olsen, it marked the eighth double-double of her career. Wagner posted season highs in field goals made (29), assists (22) and blocked shots (9). McBride is now in seventh place all-time at Wagner with 96 three-pointers made. Next on the list with 101 three-pointers made is Patti Winterfeldt (1990-94). McBride is now eighth in all-time three-pointers attempted with 296. Winterfeldt is next on that list as well with 310. The game started at 7:21 pm following a 21-minute delay due to a false fire alarm that went off in the Spiro Center, resulting in the building having to be evacuated.
