Men's Cross Country Places Fifth At NEC Championships

Junior Zachary Spector notched his third-straight All-NEC performance
COMPLETE RESULTS

New Britain, CT -
The Wagner men's cross country team finished fifth at the 8K Northeast Conference (NEC) Championships for the third-straight year at Stanley Quarter Park on the campus of Central Conneciticut State. The Seahawks were again paced by junior Zachary Spector (Yaphank, NY / Longwood), who earned his third-straight All-NEC honor in finishing ninth out of 104 total runners in 25:59.0.

Spector, who finished eighth and sixth at the last two NEC meets, respectively, helped the Green & White match the program's best finish of fifth place for a third-straight year.

“I was very pleased with Zach and our entire team's performance,” said head coach Joe Stasi. “Three years ago that time would have won the conference meet, which says a lot about the level of athlete the NEC is bringing in.”

The host Blue Devils won their second-straight league title with 30 points after finishing 1-2-3 in the individual standings, led by senior Ry Sanderson, who won by 18 seconds in a time of 24:50.0. Saint Francis (PA) was second with 56 points and Sacred Heart third with 74 points. Monmouth finished fourth with 105 points with Wagner next up at 172 points. Bryant (195 points) was sixth followed by Mount St. Mary's (213 points), Quinnipiac (225 points), Robert Morris (230 points), Saint Francis (PA) (238 points), Fairleigh Dickinson (287 points) and Long Island (377 points).

Junior Thomas Iannacone (Havertown, PA / St. Joe's) was second on the squad and 22nd overall in 26:24.3 while shaving 43 seconds off his personal-best time on the course, achieved just over a month ago.

Sophomore Matt Driscoll (Lewiston, ME / Lewiston) had a strong race, finishing third on the team and 36th overall in 27:06.9, cutting nearly four minutes off his run on the same course earlier in the year.

Two-time NEC Rookie of the Week Daniel Zaccariello (Fr., Staten Island, NY / St. Joseph By The Sea) was the fourth Wagner runner to cross the line and the 50th overall, finishing in 27:45.0 while cutting 12 seconds off his best time on the course.

Rounding out the scorers was 2007 NEC Rookie of the Year Derek Rammelkamp (Miller Place, NY / Miller Place), who was 55th in 27:58.8.

The men return to action on Saturday, November 13 when the Seahawks compete in the NCAA Regional Championships at Hammonasset Beach State Park in Hammonasset, CT.
