Archambault's Career-High 24 Points Pace Wagner In 66-56 Loss At Quinnipiac

Marie-Laurence Archambault bucketed a career-high 24 points
BOX SCORE

Hamden, CT - Freshman Marie-Laurence Archambault's (Montreal, Quebec / Montmorency) career-high 24 points on six triples was not enough as Quinnipiac withstood a late Wagner rally with a 66-56 wire-to-wire win at the TD Banknorth Sports Center in Northeast Conference (NEC) action.

In defeat, the Seahawks fall to 4-11 and 1-3 in the NEC while the Bobcats improve to 7-7 and 2-1 in the NEC.

The Quinnipiac victory was fueled by 28 free throws (36 attempts) compared to just 12 (15 attempts) for Wagner.

Archambault's performance marks the fourth-straight game that a Seahawk has notched a career-best point total of at least 20 points. The Canadian native was 7-for-13 from the floor, including 6-of-9 from beyond the arc. Unfortunately for the Green & White, the rest of the team shot just 11-64 (17.2 %) from the field and 2-of-16 (12.5 %) from three-point range.

After Quinnipiac opened the second half with a pair of three pointers to push the lead out to a game-high 18 points at 48-30 with 13:34 to play, Wagner employed a tenacious full-court press that led to 17-4 Seahawk run over the next 7:29, cutting the lead to 52-47 with 5:40 to play. Archambault fueled the run with nine points on three three pointers as the Green & White forced seven turnovers during the spurt while holding the Bobcats to just 2-of-12 shooting.

Lisa Lebak quelled the run with a pair of free throws, extending the Quinnipiac lead out to 54-47 at the 5:25 mark. Junior Sha'Ron Harrison (Paterson, NJ / John F. Kennedy) answered with a jumper before Archambault connected on two from the line, cutting the deficit to 54-51 with 3:34 to play, the closest Wagner had been since the 11:42 mark of the first half.

The Bobcats countered with four-straight from the free throw line, making it 58-51 with 2:37 to go. Junior Megan Mahoney (Staten Island, NY / St. Peter's) would not allow the Green & White to go down quietly, drilling a three pointer to make it a four-point game at 58-54 with 2:28 to go. That would be as close as the Seahawks would get as the Bobcats closed out the game with an 8-2 run to win 66-56.

Harrison had a solid game with eight points and seven rebounds, all on the offensive end.

Quinnipiac connected on 37.2 percent from the floor (16-43), including 50.0 percent (6-12) from beyond the arc. The Bobcats were paced by Courtney Kaminski's 20 points and 12 rebounds. Kathleen Neyens (11 points) and Lebak (10 points) also notched double-figures.

Despite losing the battle of the boards by a 50-41 count, the Seahawks owned the offensive glass 24-13, leading to a 13-4 advantage in second-chance points.

Quinnipiac started the game out with a 9-2 run before the Wagner answered with five-straight points, cutting the deficit to 9-7 with 14:54 to go in the first half. Later with the Seahawks still down two at 16-14, the Bobcats used a 10-3 run to open up a 26-17 lead with 8:20 to go. Quinnipiac would push the lead out to a half-high 13 at 34-21 with 4:04 to go before heading into intermission up 40-28.

The Bobcats shot 45.9 percent (10-22) from the floor, but connected on 85.0 percent (17-20) from the charity stripe in opening up a 12-point halftime lead. The Seahawks, in comparison, hit on just 25.6 percent (10-39) from the floor.

Wagner returns home following a seven-game road trip with a game against Long Island on Thursday, January 14. Tip time is slated for 5:00 pm at the Spiro Sports Center.
