The opening stanza was a run and gun affair with the score standing at 25-25 with 9:28 to play. Wagner then scored six-straight points en route to a 9-1 run, capped by an Archambault three pointer to make it 34-27 at the 7:11 mark. St. Francis (NY) then rattled off a 7-2 run, cutting the deficit to two at 36-34 with 3:54 to go. The Seahawks immediately responded with two free throws from Olsen and a jumper from Patterson, pushing the lead out to six at 40-34. St. Francis (NY) cut it to four on two more occasions before the the Green & White scored the last five points of the half, heading into intermission up 47-38.
Facing a much tougher test then their last meeting, Wagner was up to the challenge in the opening stanza taking the halftime lead while shooting 57.7 percent (15-26) from the floor but was unable to put St. Francis (NY) away, connecting on just 56.5 percent (13-23) from the charity stripe.
The Terriers, like the Seahawks, shot the ball well, connecting on 46.4 percent (13-28), including 40.0 percent (6-15) from beyond the arc, but could not counter the Green & White offensive balance. Six different Seahawks scored at least five points, led by Olsen's nine points.
Olsen opened up the second stanza with a pair of three pointers sandwiched between a
Stephanie McBride (Jr., Mechanicville, NY / Catholic Central) lay-up, pushing the Wagner lead out to an insurmountable margin of 17 at 55-38 with 16:40 to go. The Green & White lead would grow to a game-high 20 points as Wagner would not be threatened the rest of the way, winning by a 78-64 margin.
McBride also had a solid game with nine points, four rebounds, four assists and four steals while Reed notched six points, four assists and three steals, rounding out the top Seahawk performers.
Autumn Lau led the way for St. Francis (NY) with 19 points while Shannon Gantt notched 13 points and four steals. The Seahawk defense put the clamps on the Terriers, holding them to 38.6 percent shooting (22-57), including 31.0 percent (9-29) in the second half.
The Green & White controlled the glass to the tune of 38-36, leading to a 32-20 advantage in points in the paint. Wagner also forced 23 St. Francis (NY) miscues, leading to a 23-16 advantage in points off turnovers.
