Marie-Laurence Archambault (Montreal, Quebec / Montmorency) tossed in 23 points on the strength of seven three-pointers while Wagner made a season-best 10 triples from long range (45.5 %) en route to a rousing 65-49 victory over St. Francis (NY) on Women's Basketball Alumni Day at the Spiro Sports Center.
With the win, the Seahawks improve to 5-12 and 2-4 in the Northeast Conference (NEC) while snapping a three-game losing skid as the Terriers fall to 1-16 and 0-6 in the NEC.
The Green & White took it to St. Francis (NY) from the beginning, employing a full-court press that lasted all 40 minutes. Senior Sha'Ron Harrison (Paterson, NJ / John F. Kennedy) scored Wagner's first eight points while sparking a 9-0 spurt, capped by Archambault's first three pointer of the game, making it 11-3 with 16:41 to play.
After the Terriers cut it to three at 11-8 at the 15:29 mark, the Seahawks ripped off 10-straight points over the next 3:00, highlighted by two more Archambault treys. Amber Lau momentarily quelled the Green & White before Archambault hit her fourth three of the opening stanza, sparking a 6-0 run to make it 27-11 with 8:24 to play in the first. All told, Wagner outscored St. Francis (NY) 16-3 over 6:35 while grabbing control of the game.
The Seahawks closed out the half with a 10-2 run, pushing the lead out 39-19 at intermission.
In the decisive half, The Green & White shot 48.4 percent (15-31), including 58.3 percent (7-12) from beyond the arc, while holding the visitors to just 21.7 percent shooting (5-23), including 25.0 percent (2-8) from deep, and forcing 17 turnovers that led to 14 points.
Archambault led the offensive explosion with 18 points, on six three pointers, while Harrison added 10 points.
The Terriers closed the gap to 12 three times in the second half, only to be rebuffed by the Seahawks each time as Wagner won going away 65-49.
Archambault's 23 points, came on 8-of-16 shooting, including 7-13 from beyond the arc, in 30 minutes of action. Junior
Megan Mahoney (Staten Island, NY / St. Peter's) matched Harrison with 10 points, rounding out the double-digit scorers for the Green & White.
Lau led St. Francis (NY) with 14 points while Kim Snauwaert notched 11 points and nine rebounds.
The Seahawks shot 42.6 percent (26-61), including 45.5 percent (10-22) from beyond the arc, while collecting assists on 24 of 26 buckets. The Terriers, meanwhile, shot just 29.8 percent (14-47) from the floor, but was 42.1 percent (8-19) on three pointers.
Wagner is next in action on Thursday, Jan. 21 when the Seahawks travel across the Verrazano Bridge to meet Long Island University in a 5:00 pm tilt.
