Morrison Drafted By Washington Nationals In 32nd Round Of Major League Draft

Updated Bio

All-Time Wagner Selections

Secaucus, NJ –
Junior right-handed pitcher Kyle Morrison (Middlesex, NJ / Immaculata) became the latest Seahawk to be drafted when he was selected by the Washington Nationals with the first pick of the 32nd round (# 952) of the Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft.

Morrison had an outstanding junior season, going 8-2 with 55 strikeouts, against just 22 walks, over a team-best 67.0 innings and a 4.16 ERA while holding batters to a .292 average. The hard-throwing right-handed pitcher ranked among the league-leaders in wins (t-2nd), opposing average (7th) and strikeouts (t-9th).

The Garden state native becomes the third student-athlete to be drafted from Wagner in the last five drafts, joining Andrew Bailey (2005, 2006) and Joey DiGeronimo (2007) while becoming the 13th player in the program history to have his name called.

Morrison ranks among the top-10 in school history with 15 wins (t-6th), games started (32) (6th), strikeouts (147) (t-10th) and is the first Seahawk to be selected by the Washington organization since John White was drafted by the Montreal Expos in the 21st Round in 1991.

Among NEC-athletes Morrison is the sixth player to be drafted and the fourth pitcher. LIU outfielder James Jones (4th Round Seattle), Monmouth pitcher Ryan Buch (8th Round, Chicago White Sox), Monmouth pitcher Brett Brach (10th Round, Cleveland Indians), Quinnipiac pitcher Chris Gloor (17th Round, San Francisco) and Bryant shortstop Patrick McKenna (27th Round, Detroit)

Morrison holds the right to forgo his final year of eligibility and sign with the Nationals or return for his senior season. If he elects to sign with Washington, Morrison will most likely be assigned to the Gulf Coast League Nationals or the Vermont Lake Monsters of the New York Penn League. If assigned to the Lake Monsters, he will be in Brooklyn from Monday, August 24 to Wednesday, August 26 and Staten Island on Friday, September 4 to Sunday, September 6.
