BOX SCORE

Hamden, CT –
Quinnipiac defeated Wagner 4-3 behind a complete game performance from LHP Chris Gloor in the first of two games at Bobcats Field. The Bobcats improve to 8-17 and 1-4 in the Northeast Conference (NEC) while the Seahawks fall to 11-12 and 2-3 in the NEC.

Gloor moved to 3-3 on the year, striking out five while yielding three runs on eight hits and two walks over 9.0 innings of work. Senior RHP Kevin Rush (Metuchen, NJ / Metuchen) gave up one run in 1.0 innings of relief and is now 0-1.

Wagner dented the scoreboard first with two runs in the top of the third inning. Sophomore Brian Martutartus (Carlsbad, CA / La Costa Canyon) laced a one-out double to left field before moving over to third on a fly out. Junior Damian Csakai (Freehold, NJ / Freehold) singled to left field, plating Martutartus. Csakai then stole second on a failed pick-off attempt before sophomore Jared Gruccio (Landisville, NJ / Buena Regional) extended his hitting streak to nine games with a RBI single up the middle.

Quinnipiac threatened in the bottom of the fifth as Mickey Amanti and Ben Farina each singled, leading off the frame. Chris Migani followed with a sacrifice bunt, moving the pair over to second-and-third. However Seahawk starter RHP Kyle Morrison (Middlesex, NJ / Immaculata) induced two weak ground outs to first base, quelling the threat.

The Bobcats broke through in the sixth inning, scoring three runs on five hits while taking a 3-2 lead.

Junior Vin Avella (Matawan, NJ / CBA) tied the game up at 3-3 in the top of eighth with a solo home run to right field.

Quinnipiac immediately responded with a run in the bottom of the eighth. Jeff Carino led off with a single to left field. Amanti bunted pinch runner John Simone over to second. Simone then moved to third on a wild pitch before Farina plated him with a RBI ground out.

The Green & White threatened in the top of the ninth as sophomore Seth Boyd (Perth Amboy, NJ / Perth Amboy) led off with a walk after battling back from a 0-2 count. After Gloor got a strike out for the first out of the frame, sophomore Joe Jamison (West Caldwell, NJ / James Caldwell) hit into a line-drive double play, ending the Wagner rally.

Morrison drew a no-decision, striking out four, against just two walks, over 6.0 innings of work while yielding three runs on nine hits.

Avella was 2-4 with his NEC-best eighth home run of the year and the 25th of his career while Csakai went 2-4, leading way for the Wagner offense.

Amanti went 3-3 while Farina was 2-4 with two RBI, pacing Quinnipiac.
