Villane Shatters Seven-Year-Old Record at University of Virginia Meet

Charlottesville, VA –
Junior Matthew Villane (Monmouth Beach, NJ/Shore Regional) set a new Wagner College outdoor record at the University of Virginia's two-day event this weekend. Villane finished the 400 meter hurdles in second place with time of 54.52 seconds. His mark bests the previous record of 55.29 set by Eugene Sabo in 2002.

Villane was not the only Seahawk to register a new season-best. All five sprinters in the 800 meter run improved their marks, including junior Kevin Kearney (Haddonfield, NJ/St. Joe's Prep) who finished in a team best 1:58.91. Junior James Johnston (Middle Island, NY/Longwood) was not fair behind with a 1:59.95 mark. Freshman Robert MacDonald (Dix Hills, NY/Commack), Anthony Mancuso, and sophomore Brian Doxey (West Islip, NY/West Islip) all improved on their season-bests, as well.

Johnston went on to place 14th and earned a new 2009-best in the 1500 meter run with time of 4:06.60. His mark was nearly five seconds better than his 4:11.14 time posted on March 21st.

Other bright spots for the Seahawks included Brian Halling (Amherst, NH/Souhegan), who finished with a team-best 8:59.50 in the 3000 meter run. Sophomore Derek Rammelkamp (Miller Place, NY/Miller Place) earned 18th place in the event with a mark of 9:04.66.

Wagner's 4x 400 finished with a new season-low of 3:27.29, while thrower Blake Lintelman (Coral Spring, FL/West Point Military Academy) launched the discuss 37.28m for a new season-high.
