BOX SCORE
Williamsburg, VA – Wagner (4-2) won its fourth-straight game 2-0 over William & Mary (5-9) in a rain-shortened affair at Plumeri Park. Junior RHP
Kyle Morrison (Middlesex, NJ / Immaculata) was outstanding, striking out a career-best matching eight over 5.0 innings of one-hit ball while improving to 2-1 on the year.
Playing their first game in over a week the Seahawks started quick with a first-inning run. Junior
Damian Csakai (Freehold, NJ / Freehold) led off the game with a triple to left-center, before scoring on a double-play ground out, to make it 1-0 Wagner.
The Seahawks extended the lead out to 2-0 in the top of the second. Sophomore
Seth Boyd (Perth Amboy, NJ / Perth Amboy) led off with a single up the middle. Senior
Chris Drechsel (Cranford, NJ / Cranford) bunted Boyd over to second before junior
Joe Conforti (Staten Island, NY / Farrell) followed with a RBI-triple to right-center, plating Boyd.
Morrison was on top of his game, facing the minimum 15 batters over his 5.0 innings of work and struck out eight while yielding just one walk and one hit. After allowing a lead-off walk in the third, Drechsel picked off Todd Bower. In the fifth, Jeff Jones led off with an infield-single, but was erased on the next play when Morrison picked him off. The hard-throwing righty threw just 69 pitches before being relieved by junior RHP
Matt Watson (Howell, NJ / Howell).
After a 1-2-3 sixth, William & Mary mounted its only real threat of the game. Stephen Arcure walked to lead off the frame. Then on a hit-and-run attempt with the infield drawn in, sophomore
Matt Logan (Wall, NJ / Wall) snared a high chopper to start a 5-4-3 double-play. After allowing another walk, Watson induced a fly-out to end the frame. The game was then called due to increased rainfall. Watson hurled 2.0 scoreless innings of relief to collect his first career save.
Csakai was 2-3 with a triple, run and walk while Conforti also was 2-3 with a triple and Wagner's lone RBI of the day. Boyd, sophomore
Joe Jamison (West Caldwell, NJ / James Caldwell), Logan and sophomore
Jon Lucas (Hackettstown, NJ / Hackettstown) all added singles for the Green & White, which recorded eight hits on the day.
Matt Davenport yielded two runs on five hits while striking out one over 5.0 innings in falling to 3-1 on the year.
Wagner will now head to Coppin State for games on Tuesday (3:00 pm) and Wednesday (11:00 am). After their second game with the Eagles, the Seahawks will head down to Charlottesville, Virginia to play nationally ranked and undefeated Virginia (16-0) at 8:00 pm.
