Lehigh Runs Past Wagner 69-43

Lehigh used a 24-4 run to open the second half en route to a 69-43 victory over Wagner in the opening round of the Christmas City Classic at Stabler Arena.

The Seahawks fall to 2-9 with their sixth-straight loss while the defending Patriot League champion Mountain Hawks improve to 10-2.

Up 29-21 at halftime, Lehigh came out of the locker room on fire with a 24-4 run over the first 12 minutes of the second half. The Mountain Hawks extended the lead out to a game-high 28 points at 53-25 with 8:00 to play. During that time, Lehigh connected on 10-of-17 (58.8 %) from the floor while Wagner was just 2-of-16 (12.5 %).

The Seahawks responded with a 7-0 spurt, cutting the deficit to 21 points but were unable to get any closer, losing 69-43.

Junior Megan Mahoney (Staten Island, NY / St. Peter's) notched 13 points, on 4-of-9 shooting, and eight rebounds, three assists and two steals – all of which paced the Green & White. Classmate Sha'Ron Harrison (Paterson, NJ / John F. Kennedy) also had a solid game with 12 points, on 6-of-12 shooting, with five rebounds.

Wagner started out strong as Harrison scored six of the game's first eight points, staking the Seahawks to an early 6-2 lead with just over 18 minutes to play. Lehigh responded with a 19-4 run, while claiming a 21-10 lead with 6:39 to play. The Seahawks stopped the bleeding with a Mahoney three pointer and went into halftime down 29-21.

For the game, Wagner shot just 35.4 percent (17-49), including 33.3 percent (3-9) from three-point range and 42.9 percent (6-14) from the charity stripe. Lehigh connected on 48.0 percent (24-50), including a blistering 57.7 percent in the second half, highlighted by 6-of-13 shooting (46.2 %) from long range.

Erica Prosser and Alex Ross each scored 16 points to lead Lehigh while Courtney Dentler added 12 points and 12 rebounds.

Wagner will take on IUPUI in the consolation game tomorrow at 2:00 pm.
