BOX SCORE

Brooklyn Heights, NY –
Wagner jumped out to an early 12-3 lead and never looked back on the way to a hard-fought 65-58 Northeast Conference (NEC) win over St. Francis (NY) at Peter Aquilone Court. The Seahawks snapped a season-high four game losing streak and a five-game skid against the Terriers while picking up their first road victory of the year behind junior point guard Andrea Reed's (Pocomoke City, MD / Pocomoke) 24 point, eight rebound, six steal performance.

The Green & White improve to 6-13 and 2-7 in the NEC while the Terriers are now 3-16 and 2-7 in the NEC.

Wagner shot 41.2 percent (21-51) while limiting SFNY to just 34.6 percent (18-52), including 23.5 percent (4-17) from beyond the arc. The Seahawk defense forced 28 turnovers which led to a 23-13 advantage in points off of turnovers. The Terriers stayed in the game due to a 28-20 advantage in points in the paint while knocking down 85.7 percent (18-21) from the line.

After Kara Ayers started the game off with an old-fashioned three-point play, Wagner ripped off 12-straight points over the next 4:19 to take an early 12-3 lead with 13:39 to go. Ashley Olsen (Staten Island, NY / Notre Dame Academy) and Lindsay Corcoran (West Chester, PA / Villa Maria Academy) combined to score all 12 of the Seahawks' points while the defense forced four turnovers. The rest of the half was a back-and-forth affair with the Terriers closing to within five points on two occasions. After an Ayers' jumper in the paint made it 16-11, the Green & White struck for six straight points to extend the lead out to 22-11 with 5:25 to go. The Seahawks would add another two points to the lead and head into intermission up 31-18.

In the opening stanza, Wagner shot 40.0 percent (12-30), led by 10 points from Reed. The Seahawk defense was also on its game, limiting SFNY to just 26.1 percent (6-23) shooting while forcing 15 turnovers. Ayers kept the Terriers close, scoring 12 of the team's 18 points.

After senior Casey Stokes (Hummelstown, PA / Lower Dauphin) gave Wagner its largest lead of the game at 33-18, SFNY embarked on a 10-3 run to cut the lead to 36-28 with 16:15 remaining. Reed, as she did all night, would not let the Seahawks lose, answering with an old-fashioned three-point play before finding freshman Kelly Clark (Neptune, NJ / St. Rose) for a layup to extend the lead back out to 13 at 41-28. SFNY would continue to claw at the lead, cutting it to five with just 15 seconds remaining but were unable to overtake the Seahawks as Wagner hit on 9-12 from the line to close out the game, including a perfect 6-6 from Stokes.

Reed scored her game-high 24 points, on 7-15 from the floor and 10-15 from the line, over 38 minutes of action. Stokes dropped in all 10 of her points in the second half while Olsen added nine points and six rebounds. Wagner also received at least four points from five other players as the bench outscored the opposition 13-9.

Ayers led the way for the Terriers with23 points, on 7-15 shooting, with eight rebounds while Kendra Williams added 18 points and nine rebounds.
