BOX SCORE

Loretto, PA –
Saint Francis (PA) jumped out to a big second-half lead on the way to a decisive 66-51 win over Wagner in Northeast Conference (NEC) action at DeGol Arena. The Red Flash are now 4-13 and 3-4 in the NEC while the Seahawks fall to 5-12 and 1-6 in the NEC and are now 0-8 away from the friendly confines of the Spiro Sports Center.

The Green & White were outrebounded 50-34, including 22-12 on the offensive end, leading to a 30-18 SFPA advantage in the paint. The Red Flash also outscored the Green & White 23-12 in points off of turnovers. Wagner struggled from the floor, hitting on just 32.7 percent (18-55) from the floor while St. Francis (PA) was good on 38.7 percent (24-62).

Senior Casey Stokes (Hummelstown, PA / Lower Dauphin) led Wagner in scoring for the third time this year with 10 points while recording three steals and four rebounds. Junior Andrea Reed (Pocomoke City, MD / Pocomoke) added nine points with five rebounds, four assists and three steals. Freshman Lindsay Corcoran (West Chester, PA / Villa Maria Academy) also had a solid game, scoring a career-high seven points with five rebounds in a career-best 31 minutes of action.

Corcoran, who was making her first collegiate start, opened up the game's scoring with a jumper off a nifty pass from Reed. SFPA then scored seven-straight points to go in front 7-2. Wagner would trim it to 7-6 with a pair of baskets from sophomore Ashley Olsen (Staten Island, NY / Notre Dame Academy) and freshman Kanifa Hicks (Paterson, NJ / Passaic County Tech). The Red Flash then extended the lead out to a half-high nine with a 9-1 spurt to make it 16-7 with 9:00 to go. With Reed, Wagner's leading scorer and point guard, on the bench with two fouls the Seahawks scored eight-straight points over the next 3:18 to trim the deficit to one at 16-15 with 5:27 to go in the first stanza. Stokes started the run with a jumper before a pair of layups from senior Helen Swartley (Staten Island, NY / St. Joseph's Hill) and sophomore Nyoto Patterson (Teaneck, NJ / Manhattan Center (NY). Stokes then capped the run with a fast-break lay-up off a steal.

Unfortunately, that would be as close as Wagner would get the rest of the way. Britney Hodges started a 9-1 run with a triple and finished it with a jumper in the paint, stretching the lead out to 25-16 with 3:29 remaining. The Seahawks would cut it to six at the break, trailing just 29-23 despite shooting just 31.0 percent. The Red Flash accrued the halftime lead thanks to an 11-5 advantage in second chance points.

SFPA came out of halftime and used an 11-3 run to extend the lead out to 40-26 at the first media time out. With the Red Flash clinging to a 12-point advantage, SFPA used an 11-2 spurt to make it 53-32 with 8:59 to go while for all intents and purposes putting the game on ice. Wagner trimmed the deficit to 12 at 60-48 with 2:35 to go, following Stokes' second triple, but could not get any closer.

Hodges scored a game-high 17 points, on 7-11 shooting, with seven rebounds in just 21 minutes to lead the Red Flash. Samantha Leach added 12 points while Kelsey Caruthers chipped in with 11 points and eight rebounds to round out the double-digit performers for SFPA.

Wagner is next in action on Saturday January 24 at 4:00 pm when the Seahawks host Sacred Heart on Women's Basketball Alumni Day.
