Hanover, NH - Wagner plays against Fairfield today at 5:00 pm in the first game of the Big Sky Classic (12/29-12/30) hosted by Dartmouth. The Seahawks will then square off against either Boston College or the host Big Green tomorrow at 5:00 or 7:00 pm.
With A Win ... Wagner would even its record at 5-5 and move to .500. The five wins would also be the most won by the Green & White before the end of December since the 1998-1999 squad won six games.
Scouting Fairfield - Fairfield sports an even 5-5 mark, including 1-1 in MAAC play. This will be the third game of the year for the Stags against NEC competition as Fairfield defeated Sacred Heart 59-58 before losing to Mount St. Mary's 66-59.

Scouting Dartmouth - The Big Green are 2-7, having defeated Delaware and Stony Brook. Dartmouth's record is deceiving as five of the losses have come to highly-regarded programs such as Hartford, St. John's, Michigan State, Temple and Arkansas.
Senior guard Koren Schram is averaging a team-best 13.7 ppg with 5.1 rpg while sophomore forward Brittney Smith checks in with 11.8 ppg and a team-best 7.7 rpg.
The Series vs. Dartmouth - The Seahawks and the Big Green have never met.
Ivy - This would be the Green & White's second meeting with a team from the Ivy League. All-time, the Seahawks are 19-20 against the Ancient Eight after losing to Columbia (11/25) 79-69 earlier this year.
Reed Sets School-Record - Junior
Andrea Reed (Pocomoke City, MD / Pocomoke) continued her impressive performance this season vs. Saint Peter's (12/20). Reed scored 19 of her career-high 25 points in the second half while setting school-records for free throws made (15) and free throws attempted (18). She added a team-best seven rebounds and four assists in helping the Green & White rebound from a 16 point second-half deficit.
Free Throw Shooting A Key - Wagner pulled out its 58-53 come-from-behind win vs. Saint Peter's (12/20) thanks to 81.1 percent shooting (30-37) from the charity stripe, including 85.7 percent (24-28) in the second half. This year, Wagner has connected on 71.9 percent from the floor - which is third-best in the NEC - after making good on just 67.1 percent a year ago.
Interesting - Wagner defeated Saint Peter's (12/20) 58-53 despite scoring more points from the free throw line (30) then the field (28) and connected on just 12 field goals (second lowest amount in school history). The Seahawks only had 15 points at halftime and shot just 27.9 percent.
Key Stat - Wagner went just 4-11 in games decided by 10 points or less - including 2-4 in contests decided by five points or less in 2007-08. This year, the Green & White are 4-0 in games decided by less than 10 points and 3-0 in games decided by less than five points.
McBride Goes Off - Sophomore
Stephanie McBride (Mechanicville, NY / Catholic Central) scored a career-high 15 points, including 14 in the second half, with four steals in the Seahawks' 58-53 win vs. Saint Peter's (12/20). She also drilled two big triples, one of which gave Wagner its first lead of the game.
DNP Translates To Big Games - McBride's peformance comes after not playing in the previous game due to illness. This is the fourth time this year a Wagner player has scored in double-digits after not seeing action in the previous game.

Nyoto Patterson (Teaneck, NJ / Manhattan Center (NY)) turned in her best performance as a Seahawk against Colgate (12/1). The 6-0 forward notched career-highs in points (10) and rebounds (6) while giving the Green & White a spark off the bench in their 58-56 overtime win.
Junior John'a Poole (Middle River, MD / Eastern Tech) scored 14 points off the bench at Columbia (11/25) after not playing in the previous three games. Classmate
Naomi Augustin (Valley Stream, NY / Valley Stream Central) scored a career-high 13 points in 19 minutes in a win over NJIT (11/18) ... after not playing against Army (11/14).
Coach Gela - Wagner is led by
Gela Mikalauskas, who is in her second tenure on Grymes Hill. She is the winningest coach in school history and sports a career record of 190-212 in 15 years after picking up her 190th career win vs. Saint Peter's (12/20).
Reed Steps Up - Reed has elevated her game to an even higher level in this her third year at Wagner. She leads the squad and ranks among the NEC's best in numerous catagories. Reed is averaging 14.1 ppg (8th NEC), 4.6 apg (1st NEC), 5.4 rpg (19th NEC) and 2.2 spg (t-6th NEC). She is also hitting at a 50.6 percent clip (4th NEC) from the floor and has made good on 74.3 percent of her free throws (12th NEC).
Second-Half Superstar - For the second-straight year Reed is elevating her game in the second stanza. In the win over Saint Peter's (12/20), Reed scored 19 of her 25 points after intermission and was 13-15 from the charity stripe. In the victory vs. Army (11/14), she scored 18 of her game-high 22 points on 7-9 shooting from the floor in the last 20 minutes. In the overtime win vs. Colgate (12/1), she tallied all 15 of her points in the second half and assisted on Poole's game-winning shot. On the year, she is averaging a team-best 9.2 points in the second half while shooting a blistering 52.2 percent. She has been lethal from the charity stripe hitting on 79.1 percent.
Bucking The Trend - The Green & White now have three wins when trailing at the half this year, after registering just two over the previous four campaigns combined.

Brittney Thorpe (Newport News, VA / Heritage) is also from the same high school as senior Llew Radford from the men's team. Mikalauskas coached former St. Louis Cardinals' star and 20-game winner Matt Morris' twin sisters Sherry and Stacy Morris during the 1989-1990 season. She also coached Ann Marie Carmody, who is married to Monmouth head football coach Kevin Callahan. Carmody is also the sister of current Northwestern men's basketball head coach Bill Carmody.
