BOX SCORE

Pittsburgh, PA –
No. 16 Pitt showed Wagner why they are considered one of the nation's elite with a 98-41 win over the Seahawks in non-conference action before 2,354 fans at the Petersen Events Center. The Panthers have now won eight in a row and are 8-1 while the Green & White fall to 3-5.

Pitt scored the first 10 points of the game before Wagner got on the board with an Andrea Reed (Jr., Pocomoke City, MD / Pocomoke) jumper as the Seahawks played the Panthers even over the next six-plus minutes and were down just 20-10 with 11:42 remaining in the first half after John'a Poole's (Jr., Middle River, MD / Eastern Tech) fast-break lay-up. Pitt then used a 7-0 run to extend the lead out to 17 before heading into intermission up 46-23.

It was more of the same in the second half as the Panthers out-scored the Seahawks 52-18, highlighted by an 18-0 run, on the way to an easy 98-41 victory.

Pitt shot 41.0 percent from the floor (32-78) while Wagner shot a respectable 31.5 percent (17-54). The Panthers outrebounded the Seahawks 59-28, including 27-6 on the offensive end, leading to a 28-3 advantage in second-chance points.

Shavonte Zellous, who was one of eight female student-athletes to grace the cover of the Sports Illustrated pre-season issue, scored a game-high 26 points, on 11-21 shooting, as all five starters for the Panthers scored in double-figures.

Leading the way for Wagner was senior Casey Stokes (Hummelstown, PA / Lower Dauphin), who pulled down a team-best six rebounds, with three assists and two steals over a game-high 37 minutes. Freshman Kanifa Hicks (Paterson, NJ / Passaic County Tech) topped all Wagner-scorers with nine points. Poole added seven points with a career-high three blocks and four rebounds while Reed and senior Helen Swartley (Staten Island, NY / St. Joseph's Hill) each notched six points.
