Quinnipiac Defeats Wagner 78-52

Quinnipiac handed Wagner a 78-52 defeat in Northeast Conference (NEC) action at the Spiro Sports Center. The Bobcats used a 33-7 advantage in points off of turnovers to improve to 8-1 and 2-0 in the NEC while the Seahawks fall to 3-4 and 0-1 in the NEC.

Sophomore Ashley Olsen (Staten Island, NY / Notre Dame Academy) led the Green & White with 13 points, on 5-12 shooting, with a game-high seven rebounds. Junior Andrea Reed (Pocomoke City, MD / Pocomoke) netted double-digits for the seventh-straight game to start the year with 10 points, on 5-11 shooting, while also pulling down five rebounds with three assists. Sophomore Nyoto Patterson (Teaneck, NJ / Manhattan Center (NY)) had her second-straight solid game with nine points and four rebounds in 16 minutes off the bench.

After Olsen completed a three-point play to cut the lead to 46-33 with 16:08 remaining in the game, Quinnipiac broke open the game with a game-changing 15-0 run over the next 5:02, extending the lead out to61-33 with 11:06 remaining.

For the game, Quinnipiac shot 47.3 percent (26-55), including 40.0 percent (6-15) from beyond the arc while limiting the Seahawks to just 36.7 percent shooting (18-49). The Bobcats also forced 23 turnovers that led to 33 points while only turning over the ball eight times. Wagner did outrebound Quinnipiac by a 37-32 count, including 12-7 on the offensive end, which led to a 14-6 advantage in second-chance points for the Seahawks.

Quinnipiac took a 39-28 halftime lead on the strength of a 22-2 advantage on points off turnovers. Preseason All-NEC selection Erin Kerner led the visitors with 13 points in the opening stanza. With the Seahawks trailing 6-4 the Bobcats unfurled a 14-2 run over the next 4:16 to make it 20-6 Quinnipiac with 10:33 left in the half. The Bobcats would push the lead out to a half-high 16 before a pair of late Wagner buckets from Olsen and Reed cut the deficit to 39-28 at intermission. Olsen paced the Green & White with 10 points and four rebounds in the first stanza.

Kerner led the Bobcats with 20 points, on 8-11 shooting, while Sarah McGowan chipped in with 12 points while Krystal Lazos and Brianna Rooney added 11 points and 10 points, respectively.

The Seahawks have now lost 13-straight to the Bobcats and are just 5-16 all-time against Quinnipiac.

Wagner is next in action on Tuesday, Dec. 16 at 7:00 pm when the Seahawks head to No. 16 Pittsburgh.
