Staten Island, NY -
Wagner returns to action tonight when the Seahawks welcome Colgate to the Spiro Sports Center at 7:00 pm. This is the first meeting between the two squads since the 2004-2005 season and the 11th overall. The Green & White are coming off a 79-69 loss at Columbia.

With A Win ... Wagner would start the year with three wins in a row at the Spiro Sports Center for the first time since the facility opened in the spring of 1999. It would also be the first time the Seahawks won their first three homes games since the 1996-1997 season when the Green & White defeated Columbia, Lehigh and George Mason.

Scouting Colgate - Colgate enters tonight's game with a 2-5 record, having already doubled last year's total of one win. The Raiders are led by Sami Kozlowski, who is averaging a team-best 12.3 ppg. Patricia Oakes checks in next with 10.0 ppg to go with 6.1 rpg. Georgia Gier paces the squad with 8.0 rpg while also averaging 5.9 ppg.
Colgate has defeated St. Francis (NY) and Albany. In their last game, the Raiders lost 61-51 to Detroit.

The Series - Wagner is 3-7 all-time against Colgate with all three victories coming at home.

Patriot League - This is the second meeting between the Seahawks and a Patriot-League squad this year. Wagner defeated Army in its season-opener by a 59-58 count. All-time the Seahawks is 14-17 against Patriot League foes.

Key Stat - Wagner is shooting a NEC-best 44.1 percent from the floor and is averaging 65.0 ppg. Colgate is allowing opponents to shoot 40.4 percent from the floor and by comparison, averaging just 48.7 ppg.

Of Note - Wagner's 82 points scored in its win over NJIT (11/18) was statistically significant for two reasons. First, it matched the Green & White's highest point total in the nine-year history of the Spiro Sports Center. Wagner hit for 82 points in an 82-68 win over the Mount on Feb. 24, 2003. The 82 points also marked the first time the Seahawks have scored 80 points or more since an 81-59 win at Long Island on Jan. 21, 2004 - a span of 125 games.

Five Spot - Wagner placed five student-athletes in double-figures for the first time since Nov. 24, 2002 against Colgate, marking the first time that had happened since midway through George W. Bush's first term in office - a span of 168 games.

Poole Returns -
After missing the previous three games due to an injury, junior John'a Poole scored 14 points, on 7-13 shooting, in just 21 minutes at Columbia (11/25). She is second on the team in scoring (10.5 ppg).

Reed Steps Up -
Junior Andrea Reed has elevated her game to an even higher level in this her third year at Wagner. She leads the squad and ranks among the NEC's best in points, rebounds, assists and steals. Reed is averaging 14.2 ppg (10th NEC), 6.4 rpg (13th NEC), 5.2 apg (3rd NEC) and 2.2 spg (t-9th NEC). She is also hitting at a 52.2 percent clip (4th NEC) from the floor and is seventh in the conference with a 1.3 assist to turnover ratio.

Double-Down -
Freshman Kanifa Hicks notched the second Wagner double-double of the year and the first of her young career at Columbia (11/25), registering double-figures in points (10) and rebounds (10). On the year, she is averaging 6.4 ppg and 4.8 rpg.

Stokes Steps Up -
Casey Stokes has defied the odds from day one. First she had to make the team as a walk-on. Then as a sophomore she was named captain, before earning a scholarship and a spot in the starting rotation as a junior.

Now as a senior she's one of the top three-point shooters in the NEC. Over the first five games, Stokes is averaging 2.2 threes per game (5th NEC) and is hitting at a 45.8-percent clip (4th NEC). She is also third on the squad with 8.4 points per game and has 13 assists while turning the all over just three times in 128 minutes.

She scored a season-high 14 points, on 4-7 shooting from three-point land, at Seton Hall (11/21). In the win over NJIT (11/18), she dropped in 10 points, on 3-6 shooting from outside the arc, with five assists.

Heritage High In The House - There must be something in the air in the hallways of Heritage High.

Freshman Brittney Thrope scored a career-high 14 points with five rebounds in just 15 minutes off the bench in Wagner's 82-73 win over NJIT (11/18). She also helped closed out the game by hitting 8-10 from the charity stripe, including all four of her free throws in the final 35 seconds. Her high school classmate senior Llew Radford posted his second career double-double with a career-high 26 points and 12 rebounds in the Wagner men's 59-44 win against Saint Peter's and was recently named NEC Player of the Week.

On the year, Thorpe is averaging 8.4 ppg and shooting 48.3 percent from the floor and 73.7 percent from the charity stripe.

Clark Mans The Post - Kelly Clark, like Thorpe, is having an outstanding start to her freshman campaign in the frontcourt. She matched Thrope with a team-best 14 points, on 6-7 shooting, with three blocks in the Green & White's 82-73 win over NJIT (11/18).

She leads the NEC in shooting (55.6 %) and blocks per game (2.4 bpg) while averaging 7.4 ppg.

Instant Offense - After not playing a minute in the Seahawks' first game of the year, junior Naomi Augustin went off for 13 points, on 5-9 shooting, in just 19 minutes off the bench in the Seahawks' 82-73 win over NJIT (11/18).

Second-Half Superstar - For the second-straight year junior Andrea Reed has elevated her game in the second stanza. In the win over Army (11/14) she scored 18 of her game-high 22 points on 7-9 shooting from the floor. On the year, she is averaging a team-best 9.6 points in the second half while shooting a blistering 57.1 percent (16-28).

Bucking The Trend -
After going 0-18 when trailing at the half to start last year, the Seahawks won three-straight when trailing at intermission, including the first two games this season.

Both will be freshmen and have four years of eligibility beginning in the 2009-2010 season.

Playing The Best -
Wagner again will play a challenging non-conference slate. The Seahawks defeated Army, which won 18 games a year ago. Also on the docket are Seton Hall (13 wins), Pitt (24 wins, Sweet 16), Saint Peter's (19 wins), Fairfield (22 wins), Boston College (21 wins) and Bryant (20 wins).

Offense Comes Alive -
In Wagner's 82-73 win over NJIT (11/18) the Seahawks had five players reach double-figures, marking just the fifth time over the last two-plus years the Green & White have had at least four double-digit scorers. In those games Wagner is 4-1.

Wagner Connections - Assistant coach Maureen Hannafin played for head coach Gela Mikalauskas from 1985-1989. Sophomore forward Ashley Olsen suited up for Hannafin and her husband John at Notre Dame Academy from 2003-2007. Freshman center Kelly Clark's aunt, Grace Paterno, played for Mikalauskas from 1981-1985 and is a member of the Wagner College Athletics Hall of Fame. Fellow freshman Brittney Thorpe is also from the same high school as senior Llew Radford from the men's team. She also coached Ann Marie Carmody, who is married to Monmouth head football coach Kevin Callahan. Carmody is also the sister of current Northwestern men's basketball head coach Bill Carmody.
