Mundweiler Scores 19 Points and Nails Six Three-pointers to Lead Wagner Past Bucknell 83-79

FINAL STATS

Lewisburg, PA – Fifth-year junior guard Joey Mundweiler (Olathe, KS/ Olathe East) poured in 19 points on 6-of-11 shooting from three-point range and fellow fifth-year senior Justin Drummond (Baltimore, MD/ McDonogh) added a career-high 15 points, including a 9-of-9 effort from the foul line, to carry Wagner to an 83-79 win at Bucknell.

The win was the Seahawks' fourth straight and overall and improved Wagner to 2-0 on the road while the Bison fell to 1-4.

Wagner received major contributions from a host of players, including redshirt junior Doug Elwell (Staten Island, NY/ Monsignor Farrell) who tallied a season-high 11 points and sophomore forward Clifton Spiller (Pleasantville, NJ/ Holy Spirit) who tossed in a career-high eight points along with four rebounds.

Junior center Michael Orock (Hoboken, NJ/ Hoboken) added seven points and pulled down a career-high 10 rebounds while senior forward Llew Radford (Newport News, VA/ Heritage) and fifth-year senior forward Jamal Smith (Baltimore, MD/ Towson Catholic) chipped in with nine and eight points, respectively.

In a game that featured several big runs and wild swings in momentum, Wagner surged out to a 41-31 halftime lead and opened the second half with a 7-0 spurt in building its biggest lead of the game at 48-31 on a Radford layup with 18:23 left in the game. But the feisty Bison, who were coming off an 83-82 double-overtime win over Old Dominion, countered with a 12-4 run to make it a 52-43 game with 15:17 left.

The Seahawks answered with six quick points on three-point jumpers by Mundweiler and Elwell to go up by 15 points at 58-43 but Bucknell came storming back with a 13-3 spurt, aided by a trio of three-point jumpers by G.W. Boone, to cut the deficit to 63-58 with 8:04 to go. Things became even more tense for Wagner when Radford fouled out of the game with 4:49 left and the Seahawks leading 72-65.

A jumper by Patrick Behan, who led all scorers with 27 points, made it 79-76 with 1:01 left. After Drummond drained two free throws with 29 seconds left to make it 81-76, Behan sank a three-pointer to make it a two-point game at 81-79 with 23 seconds to go. But Drummond again calmly sank two free throws with 21 seconds left to make it 83-79 and when Bucknell's Daryl Shazier misfired on a three-pointer with 12 seconds remaining, Wagner had itself a gritty, gutsy road win.

In addition to his 15 points, Drummond added seven rebounds and a career-high seven assists. Boon wound up with 24 points for Bucknell while Shazier added 14. Wagner had a season-high 20 assists on shot a season-best 55% (11-of-20) from three-point range. In addition to Mundweiler's six treys, Elwell was 3-of-4 from downtown and freshman guard Chris Martin (Sicklerville, NJ/ Apex Academies) was 2-of-3 from beyond the arc. In the last three games, Mundweiler is 13-of-28 from three-point range.

Wagner is next in action on Wednesday evening when the Seahawks travel to Columbia to meet the 2-4 Lions in a 7:00 pm tip-off.
