Biography

TEAM CAPTAIN

2008-09 (R-Junior):
Pin-point passer who averaged 2.8 points and 1.7 rebounds per game...sees the floor extremely well....one of just five players who saw action in all 30 games, while gaining three starts…...nailed 38 percent of his three-point attempts (21-of-56)...boasted a fine 43-24 assist/turnover ratio...registered season-high 11-point outing at Bucknell (11/29)…supplied eight points on 2-of-3 shooting in win at Bryant (2/12)......also grabbed four rebounds with two assists vs. the Bison...hit for eight points and completed a crucial one-and-one opportunity at the line to help preserve win at Saint Francis (PA) (1/15)...dished out career-high seven assists at NJIT (12/28) and had four dimes vs. Loyola Marymount (11/24)… hit two huge three-pointers in win over Robert Morris (2/21)….made 80 percent (8-10) of his free throw attempts….averaged 13.9 minutes of playing time per game with a season-high 29 minutes vs. LIU (1/10)…scored five or more points in a game eight times. 

2007-08 (R-Sophomore):
Saw action in 29 of Wagner’s 31 games … Led the team in three-point shooting percentage with a .351 clip (13-37) … Was fourth on the team in three-pointers made with 13 … Scored a season-high six points at Monmouth (1/10) and then matched that output at home against the Hawks (2/16) … Had a career-high two blocks against Maryland-Eastern Shore (12/15) and Long Island (3/6) … Grabbed three rebounds twice, at Brown (11/28) and against Monmouth (2/16) … Dished out a season-high four assists against Sacred Heart (2/14)

2006-07 (Sophomore): Redshirted ... Made several appearances as a guest analyst on the Seahawks Broadcasting Network.

2005-06 (Freshman): Played in 19 games, making one start ... Averaged 6.1 minutes a game ... Scored 31 points and grabbed 25 rebounds for the season ... Recorded a 1.8:1 Assist:Turnover ratio ... Shot a perfect 2-2 from the free throw line ... Played in 15 of 18 NEC games averaging 1.7 ppg in league play ... Made his collegiate debut in the opener vs John Jay (11/19) with five points and six rebounds in 12 minutes ... Hit 4-6 three pointers in 14 minutes and ended with a career high points at CCSU (1/26) ... Earned his first collegiate start at St. Francis (NY) (2/9) ... Took home Third Team Honors in the prestigious Jersey Shore Basketball League ... Was also named the league[apos]s Best Newcomer by Ted Kaiser of the Jersey Sports News following his league-leading 3.2 blocks per game ... In a league which Head Coach Mike Deane also participated in following his collegiate days, Elwell averaged 14.4 points a contest while ranking fifth with .441 (30-68) shooting from three in 10 games. 

Prior to Wagner / Personal:
Played under Coach Bob Besignano at Monsignor Farrell... A four-year starter, he ended his career as the all time leading scorer with 1,447 points, fourth-highest total in Staten Island history... As a senior averaged 16.2 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 3.0 assists per game and was Third Team All-City by numerous newspaper publications... Named All-State Class AA... Along with former teammate Steve Rossiter (Davidson), led the Lions to a 22-5 record and their first Staten Island High School Championship in 25 years... Participated in the Old Spice Red Zone All-Star Shoot-out featuring the prep stars from the greater Chicago Area and the greater New York Area... A three time Catholic High School Athletic Association (CHSAA) All-Star... Played AAU ball for the New York Gauchos team that was ranked third in the country... Also a member of the track team as a freshman and sophomore, he was the NY state champion in the high jump... A member of the National Honor Society and TCM (Teaching Christian Message) organizations... Uncle Frank Marone played football at Syracuse in the 1980s... Majoring in Mathematics / Computer Science with a minor in Education... Son of Doug and Donna Elwell.
