Bronx, NY – The men's cross country team took 25th place out of a field of 33 at the 2008 NCAA Division I Regional Championships as the Seahawks team time of 2:57.7 for the ten kilometer course bettered Northeast Conference (NEC) foes Sacred Heart and Central Connecticut State University.
Sophomore
Thomas Rammelkamp (Miller Place, NY/Miller Place) topped the Green & White times with a 34:59.1 outing, good for 122nd place out of 239 runners. Twin brother
Derek Rammelkamp (Miller Place, NY/Miller Place) followed in hot pursuit, finishing nearly 15 seconds behind his brother for a time of 35:14.4 for 131st place.
Graduate student
Brian Halling (Amherst, NH/Souhegan) kept things rolling with his 35:28.9 time while freshman
Zachary Spector (Yaphank, NY/Longwood) finished for the first time in his Seahawk career in the middle of the Green & White pack. The normal top Seahawk finisher throughout the 2008 season had problems with the extremely wet conditions, though was still able to put together a respectable time of 35:36.7 in his first collegiate 10K race. Rounding out the Seahawk performances was freshman
Thomas Iannacone (Havertown, PA/St. Joe's Prep) bringing in a time of 36:36.7.
“This has been the best performance I've ever seen the men have at the Regionals since came to Wagner,” notes head coach
Joe Stasi who is in his 13th year at the helm of the Green & White cross country and track & field teams. “Its great to see the guys put out this amount of effort even after the NEC Championships are finished.”
At the NEC Championships, the Seahawks brought home their highest team finish in program record with fifth place.
There is just one meet left in the 2008 season as Wagner will take on the competition of the ECAC/IC4A Championships on Saturday, November 22 in the Bronx, NY.
