Freshman Ben Ruta batted a team-best .400 (12-of-30) with two runs, four RBI, six walks and one triple while posting a .500 OBP in May. Ruta began the month with a single and a walk in Wagner’s thrilling 8-7 come-from-behind win against Mount St. Mary’s in the first game of a doubleheader. After drawing a walk in the nightcap, Ruta was 2-for-5 with a pair of RBI in helping secure a series victory over the Mountaineers. He then reached base safely in all three games he started at LIU Brooklyn, before finishing his season on a high note against eventual NEC Champion Bryant. Ruta became just the fifth conference player to hit safely in all five games against a Bulldog pitching staff that ranks 10th nationally with a 2.63 ERA. The Garden State native hit a blistering .538 .(7-for-13)  while notching a pair of multi-hit games. After singling and drawing a walk in the opener, Ruta went 3-for-6 in the teams’ doubleheader. The first-year Wagner player went 2-for-3 while driving in the lone Seahawk RBI in the opener, before notching his first triple of the year in the nightcap. Ruta then capped his big weekend performance by going 3-for-4 with a walk and a RBI in the teams’ finale. On the year, he hit .322, including a blistering .415 with runners in scoring position.
