STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — On Tuesday afternoon, Wagner College head fencing coach
David Sierra announced the signing class for the Seahawks' upcoming 2026-27 squads. The two teams signed eight total recruits, with the men's and women's team each signing four student-athletes each.
Men's Recruits:
Adrian Alvarez | La Romana, Dominican Republic | Foil
Alvarez arrives on Grymes Hill having competed in the foil competition at the most recent Junior Pan-American games in Asunción, Paraguay. Alvarez competes for the DR Fencing Federation, and is the top-ranked male senior foilist among Dominican fencers according to the FIE.
Jamie Da Silva | Denville, NJ | Foil
Da Silva joins the Seahawks as an accomplished fencer in the New Jersey high school circuit. In 2025, da Silva earned First Team All-NJAC (Northwest Jersey Athletic Conference) honors, and placed third at the Morris County Championships.
Caleb Mathes | Tigard, OR | Epee
Arriving on Grymes Hill from the pacific northwest, Mathes begins his DI fencing career after transferring from Portland State, and competing with the Northwest Fencing Center. Mathes' most recent event ended in a top-100 finish in men's epee at the 2025 USA Fencing Summer Nationals.
Jamil Wazzan | Staten Island, NY | Sabre
Sierra's only 2026-27 recruit from the five boroughs, Wazzan joins the Seahawks from the Richmond County Fencing Center. The local product fenced under the tutelage of Coach Sierra at the RCFC, and picked up seven wins in the prior fencing season.
Women's Recruits:
Pietra Campos | Sao Jose do Rio Preto, Brazil | Epee
One of four international recruits, and the first of three on the women's team, Campos joins Wagner as Brazil's No. 4 junior women's epee fencer according to the FIE. Campos recently competed at the FIE's Bogota Grand Prix.
Isabella Guerra | Valencia, Venezuela | Sabre
Another competitor at the Bogota Grand Prix, Guerra helped her club (Club de Esgrima Venezuela) claim the bronze medal at the event. The Valencia, Venezuela native will join the Green & White as the No. 3 women's junior sabrist in Venezuela.
Alisa Ivanushkina | Homdel, NJ | Epee
The second recruit from the state of New Jersey, Ivanushkina finished her four years at Homdel High School with over 50 individual victories, including a 35-8 stretch throughout her last two seasons. Most recently, Ivanushkina competed at local events in Freehold, NJ as a member of the Freehold as well as the 2025 USFA Summer Nationals.
Kristin Naranjo | Quito, Ecuador | Foil
The third recruit from South America, Naranjo joins as the FIE's top-ranked junior women's fencer in Ecuador, and 89th-ranked overall. The Elite Fencing Club LA product reached the quarterfinals of the junior women's foil event in her most recent showing.

Flavio Vinci earned All-American honors at the NC Fencing Championships, becoming the first fencer in Wagner program history to earn that distinction. Additionally, sabrist
Fanny Straub finished 11th in women's sabre at the Mid-Atlantic/South regionals, the highest finish in program history.
