STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Wagner College swimming & diving head coach
Colin Shannahan has announced the five captains for both the men's and women's teams for the upcoming 2026-27 season.
On the women's team, senior
Avery Stirling returns as a captain for the second straight year, after being the only junior named a captain last season. Stirling's best regular season performance came against Binghamton, swimming a 5:45.34 time in the 500-yard freestyle. Stirling beat that time with a season-best 5:41.07 in the same event at the NEC Championships.
Joining Stirling will be fellow senior
Brooke Woolfe. The Elmhurst, IL native won four medals at the NEC Championships, which included bronzes in the 800-yard freestyle relay, the 200-yard individual medley, and the 400-yard freestyle relay, and a silver medal in the 400-yard individual medley.
On the men's team, senior
Nikko Carrillo was named a captain after his successful 25-26 campaign. The Santa Barbara, CA native won four medals at last season's NEC Championships, including two gold medals in the 200-yard backstroke and the 200-yard butterfly during the final day of competition. Carrillo earned two NEC Prime Performer honors during the regular season.
Senior
Gabe Johnson and junior
Caristhon de Azevedo Jr. round out the captains for the men's team. Both swimmers placed top-10 in their three races during the NEC Championships, including together in the 400-yard individual medley. Johnson swam his best 200-yard IM time during the Championships, finishing with a 1:54.65 time and shaving a second off his previous Championship time from 2025.
de Azevedo competed in every meet for Wagner during the 2025-26 season. The Brazil native starts the season as the only junior captain on either the men's or women's team
