INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — The NCAA announced the 64-team field for the 2026 Division I Softball Tournament on Sunday, May 10. Wagner was selected as the No. 4 seed in the Austin Regional. The Seahawks will take on No. 1 Texas on Friday, May 15 at 4 p.m. EDT (3 p.m. CDT). The double-elimination region will take place at the Red & Charline McCombs Field in Austin, TX.
The Seahawks captured their first ever NEC on May 9, after coming from behind to defeat CCSU in the championship game, 5-4. Junior third baseman
Sydnie Trujillo won the NEC Tournament MVP, while junior pitcher
Karson Zavala, freshman pitcher
Samantha Lotus, and junior second baseman
Leilani Gonzales earned NEC All-Tournament honors.
In the regular season, Zavala won the NEC Pitcher of the Year Award, and joined Trujillo and sophomore designated player
Alayna Giampolo on the All-NEC first team. Lotus earned a spot on the NEC All-Rookie team, joining center fielder
Ava Nawrocki, and Gonzales earned All-NEC second team honors, to round out the Seahawk award-winners.
Texas finished as the sixth-ranked team in the nation, and won the SEC Softball Championship over Alabama on May 9, earning the second overall seed in the NCAA Tournament. The Longhorns were well-represented in the SEC end-of-season awards, as junior infielder Katie Stewart took home SEC Player of the Year honors. Texas also earned four All-SEC first team spots and three All-SEC second team spots, while senior Reese Atwood earned All-SEC defensive team honors at catcher. Texas enters the tournament as the reigning national champions.
The remaining teams in the Austin Regional are Baylor and Wisconsin.
Wagner's first game of the tournament will be against Texas starting at 4 p.m. on Friday, May 15, and streaming on the ESPN app. The second game will take place on Saturday, May 16; the opponent and start time will be determined after the end of the first two games of the regional.
