BRIDGEWATER, N.J. — Freshman Brendan McLoughlin has been named NEC Rookie of the Week after a 6-for-11 weekend against CCSU where he scored six runs and finished with six RBIs, hitting a double and his first career home run.
McLoughlin opened the weekend against CCSU with a 1-for-4 game where he scored a run, walked and pushed in two RBIs. His hit was a massive two-RBI single to centerfield to score the two runs Wagner needed to tie the game at nine, forcing extras.
The freshman was 2-for-3 in game two, scoring three runs, walking once and batting in a run. He scored in the fourth after a walk, making it a 4-0 Wagner lead, then again in the sixth after hitting a leadoff double. His final trip home came in the seventh off an RBI single from Torres after he got on via a two-out single.
The freshman was 3-for-4 in game three as Wagner's only hitter with three hits, scoring a pair of runs and batting in three. Hit his first career home run in the fourth, a two-run homer that kicked off what became three consecutive scoring innings that brought the Seahawks back in the game. McLoughlin added an RBI single in the fifth to make it 13-8 and scored on a single from Torres later in the inning. He then singled in the ninth in a massive AB, then a pinch runner scored for him two batters later on the two-RBI single that tied the game at 13.
Alongside McLoughlin, senior right-handed pitcher Colin Trizuto was named an NEC Prime Performer for his 8.0 innings pitched in game two against the Blue Devils, leading the Seahawks to an 8-2 win to even up the series.
Next up, McLoughlin and the Seahawks host Norfolk State at Skylands Stadium for a weekend NEC series starting Friday, April 10 with a noon first pitch.
