PRINCETON, N.J. – The No. 22 ranked Wagner College women's water polo team took part in its regular season finale, falling to No. 12 Princeton, 12–11, in triple overtime on Wednesday evening at DeNunzio Pool.
Princeton opened the contest with a strong first quarter, building a 3–2 lead. Wagner responded in the second period, finding its rhythm on both ends of the pool. However, the Tigers outscored the Seahawks, 2–1, in the quarter, with a contributing goal from junior
Catherine Mentz, making the score 5–3 heading into halftime.
In the third, Wagner edged Princeton 4–3 to regain a one-goal advantage. The Seahawks continued to stay within striking distance behind contributions from junior
Alex Hlohovsky Andrist, freshman
Makayla Ulmer-Lutudromu and Mentz, setting up a dramatic fourth quarter.
In the final frame, both teams traded goals in a back-and-forth battle. Ultimately, Wagner leveled the score at 9–9 to force overtime.
The teams remained locked in a defensive tie in the first overtime period, with both sides being able to find the back of the net once each. In the second overtime, both Wagner and Princeton exchanged more goals, keeping the contest tied into a sudden-victory third overtime.
In the third overtime period, Princeton capitalized on its first scoring opportunity to secure the 12–11 victory.
