LEXINGTON, Va. — The No. 21 Wagner women's water polo team delivered a dominant weekend at the VMI-MAAC Showcase, earning three conference victories over VMI, Mount St. Mary's, and Iona. The Seahawks dominated each matchup, building momentum in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play.
Game 1 Results – No. 21 Wagner 23, VMI 9
Wagner wasted no time setting the tone, erupting for seven goals in the opening quarter to build an early 7-2 advantage. The Seahawks' offense stayed strong from the start, with multiple players contributing to the fast-paced attack, highlighted by junior
Catherine Mentz with two goals.
The Green & White continued to control the contest in the second period, adding five more goals, while holding VMI to just four, extending their lead to 12-7 at halftime.
Out of halftime, Wagner remained aggressive on both ends of the pool. The Seahawks netted six goals in the third quarter, continuing to stretch their advantage as they outpaced VMI's offense. Contributions from junior Ana Arias Pérez, senior

The Seahawks closed out the match with another strong quarter, tallying five goals in the fourth while keeping VMI in check defensively. Wagner's push was present throughout the contest, with scoring spread across the lineup as the Seahawks secured the 23-9 victory.

The Seahawks and Mountaineers battled through a tightly contested opening quarter, trading goals throughout the frame to enter the second period tied at 2-2. Wagner received early contributions from junior freshman
Estel Ramon Torrent and junior
Catherine Mentz to keep pace in the opening minutes.
Wagner began to take control in the second quarter, however, Mount St. Mary's outscored the Seahawks 4-2 in the period. Senior captain
Magali Ogg and freshman
Lily Carrick helped lead the charge heading into halftime.
The third quarter featured another back-and-forth stretch, with both teams finding the back of the net. Wagner maintained its lead behind continued scoring from junior
Maylen Sampedro Tarela, Ogg and Mentz, holding a 7-6 edge entering the final frame.
In the fourth quarter, the Seahawks' defense stepped up. Wagner held Mount St. Mary's scoreless in the period while adding four decisive goals to secure the 11-7 victory. Senior goalie and captain
Francesca Sena made key stops down the stretch, helping the Seahawks close out the contest.

Game 3 Results – No. 21 Wagner 19, Iona 12
Wagner and Iona tied 4-4 after the opening quarter behind a fast-paced attack and balanced scoring. The Seahawks still continued to generate quality looks on offense, with junior
Maylen Sampedro Tarela leading the charge in the early going.
The Seahawks delivered one of their most decisive stretch in the second quarter, erupting for five goals while holding Iona to four. Wagner capitalized on its opportunities in matched intensity moments, building a 9-8 advantage at halftime.
Out of the break, Iona looked to respond in the third, however, the Seahawks maintained control of the contest. Contributions from senior captain

Wagner closed out the match with another strong offensive quarter, adding four goals in the fourth while matching Iona's output to secure the 19-12 victory. The Seahawks had multiple players finding the back of the net and contributing to the team's consistent scoring output.

Up Next: The Seahawks will step out of conference play for a midweek matchup on Wednesday, April 1, traveling to Princeton, New Jersey to face Princeton at 6:30 p.m. at DeNunzio Pool. Wagner will then shift its focus to postseason play at the 2026 MAAC Women's Water Polo Championships, set for April 11-12 at McCann Natatorium in Poughkeepsie, New York, with semifinal matchups on Saturday followed by the championship game on Sunday.
