POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – The No. 21 Wagner women's water polo team delivered a strong second-half performance to defeat Siena, 13-9 on Saturday afternoon at McCann Natatorium in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference action.
Wagner came out strong in the opening quarter, scoring six goals to take an early 6-4 lead. The Seahawks capitalized on their offensive opportunities with contributions from multiple players, highlighted by senior captain
Magali Ogg's two goals, setting a fast pace and establishing control early in the contest.
Siena responded in the second quarter, tightening its defense and limiting Wagner to just one goal in the frame. The Saints scored three times to even the contest at 7-7 heading into halftime, shifting momentum and setting up a competitive second half.
The Seahawks regained control in the third quarter with a decisive surge. Wagner erupted for five goals, with junior Myalen Sampedro Tarela and Ogg adding two each, and one from junior
Catherine Mentz. The Seahawks held Siena to just one, turning a tied game into a 12-8 advantage. The Green & White executed efficiently on both ends of the pool, using key defensive stops to create separation.
In the fourth quarter, Wagner maintained its composure, adding one more goal from senior
Martina Parisi, while limiting Siena's opportunities to secure the 13-9 victory.
