WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. — Wagner competed in the Monmouth Home Opener over the weekend, its third meet of the young outdoor season.
Junior Dayana Rodriguez finished seventh of a field of 14 in hammer throw, logging a 43.26m throw in Friday's field events. In Friday's pole vault competition, senior Saranda Capani logged a 3.21m clearance to finish ninth.
Freshman Rikayla Bingham finished ninth in long jump on Saturday, logging a 5.03m jump to finish within half a meter of winner Grace Nation. Bingham's top ten finish came in a field of 24 jumpers. She also finished sixth in triple jump with a 10.80m performance, just behind graduate Jovana Miloradovic, who finished fifth with an 11.04m jump. Junior Victoria Gontowicz finished 12th as Wagner's third competitor in the event, adding a 10.27m jump.
Freshmen Jaslene Merizalde and Jessica Diaz represented Wagner in the 1,500m run, clocking in at 5:23.37 and 5:45.41, respectively. In the 800m run, junior June Fernandez ran a 2:24.83 time to finish 14th in a field of 31, joined by senior Angel Okafor who ran a 2:28.67 time. Freshman Rehanna Syed took 13th place in the 5,000m run on Saturday, clocking in at 18:49.15. Freshman Olivia Roldan-Casado, competing in her first outdoor track & field season as a two-sport athlete, logged a 19:55.08 time.
Next up, the Seahawks will head to William and Mary's Colonial Relays, beginning Friday, April 3. Held at Zable Stadium, the meet will wrap up on Saturday, April 4.
