STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Wagner's women earned eight team points on the opening day of the 2026 NEC Indoor Championship, sitting in seventh place.
LIU leads the pack with 28 points. Wagner's eight points come via five distance race points and three from the jumps.
The five distance points come from junior Rylee Ferretti's fourth-place finish in the 3,000m, finishing in 10:02.39 to just miss the podium but adding points to her team's totals. Ferretti, alongside sophomore Kate Connolly, senior Angela Cavalieri and freshman Jaslene Merizalde, will run in the 5,000m final on Monday.
Senior Saranda Capani added a point with her seventh-place pole vault finish, clearing 3.20m. The third point from the jumps came from sophomore Mia Petersen's 5.39m long jump, good for eighth place. Five Seahawks, including Petersen, are set to compete in the triple jump final on Monday.
Sophomore Christine Manneh qualified for the 60m finals with a 7.65 time in the preliminary. Manneh, alongside junior June Fernandez, will also represent Wanger in the 400m final. Manneh also made the 200m final, running a 25.01 time in her preliminary to qualify.
Junior Victoria Ann Dziubela will compete in the mile final after logging a 5:15.38 preliminary time. Senior Angelina Olah will run in the 500m final after qualifying with a 1:18.28 preliminary.
Graduate Ana Blanco Duran and junior Magui Calvo-Jorge head to the 800m final after going 1-2 in their preliminary heat with 2:17.55 and 2:17.30 finishes, respectively. Those are also names head coach Marvin Azor could call on when it comes for Wagner to select its distance medley relay team. The Seahawks will also put together a 4x400 relay team.
Sophomore Ariel Kovach and freshman Rikayla Bingham are set to compete in the high jump final on Monday. In the cages, senior Dayana Rodriguez will compete in weight throw.
The championship will wrap up on Monday, Feb. 16 with events beginning at 9:45 a.m. EST and closing ceremonies projected to begin at 2 p.m. EST.
