STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — The Wagner softball team lost to Stony Brook 2-0 on Wednesday.
After earning her first NEC Prime Performer nod on Tuesday, freshman pitcher
Samantha Lotus picked up where she left off with a couple of scoreless innings to start the day. She collected three strikeouts in those two innings, while stranding three runners on the base paths.
The Seahawks had a chance to score first with runners on the corners and two outs in the bottom of the second inning, but they left the runners stranded. Stony Brook was able to push across a run in the next inning, giving it a 1-0 lead.
The two squads traded zeros for the next three innings, before the Seawolves went up 2-0 in the top of the seventh after a couple hits and a fielder's choice. Wagner was able to get runners on first and second, but it couldn't bring them home as they lost 2-0.
The Seahawks will return to the diamond on Thursday, March 26, when they will play a doubleheader against Iona at the Wagner Softball Field. The first game will start at 2 p.m., and the second game will start at approximately 4 p.m.
