STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Wagner men's golf is prepared to enter its fall 2025 stretch of matches, beginning Saturday, September 27 at the Columbia Autumn Invitational.
With four matches scheduled through September and October, the Seahawks open with the Columbia Autumn Invitational at Lake Placid Club's Links Course. Wagner last competed in this same match in September 2023, finishing ninth.
It will be a two-day, 54-hold event hosting 13 teams and 79 players, who will complete 36 continuous holes on Saturday, followed by the remaining 18 on Sunday. The match will tee off at 8:45 a.m. Saturday morning.
The last time Wagner competed was at the Northeast Conference Tournament in April, when the Seahawks finished fifth with an 892 team score.
To open the fall 2024 season, Wagner went to the Ryan T. Lee Memorial Collegiate, finishing fifteenth place behind a strong effort from graduate Thomas Choi and freshman Daniel Cassidy. Choi has since graduated and returned to the staff as a graduate assistant, while now-sophomore Cassidy will be a young returner who has shown he can put up big performances.
Sophomore Emilio Zapian is another young player who will be reliable for the Seahawks after leading the team at the NEC Championships in the April with a +7 performance to finish eleventh overall.
It will be a veteran-heavy roster for the Seahawks this season — after losing Choi and lone senior Michael Foley in the spring, Wagner will have Renato Gerena, Javier Gonzalez Diaz, Alavid Melo Interralde and Johnny Svalina as the four seniors on the roster.
Chris Solari will be the lone junior on the roster and the Seahawks bring in freshmen Robert Joyce, Juan Martinez and Guillermo Valencia as newcomers going into the fall.
Second up on the slate this fall will be the Saint Peter's Dual Match, held Friday, October 3 at the Charleston Springs South Golf Course. Last fall, Wagner took down the Peacocks 5-2 behind a big day from Solari, who won his match by six holes.
Third will be the Bucknell Fall Invitational, beginning Sunday, October 12 at the Bucknell Golf Club and wrapping up Tuesday, October 14. Zapiain was +9 in the same match last fall, shooting back-to-back 72s on days two and three as Wagner's second-best scorer behind Choi.
The fall will wrap up at the Metropolitan Intercollegiate Championship at the Montclair Golf Club, hosted by Montclair State University beginning Monday, October 27 and going through Tuesday, October 28.
In 2024, Wagner was represented by an A and B team at the Metropolitan Intercollegiate and the A team ultimately finished eighth. Svalina finished the match at +19.
The Columbia Autumn Invitational will begin Saturday, September 27 at the Lake Placid Club. Melo Inturralde is the only Seahawk on the roster who has competed on the course with Wagner, tying for 32nd after going 74-76-74 across three rounds.
