Karson Zavala Named NEC Pitcher of the Week

BRIDGEWATER, N.J. — Junior pitcher Karson Zavala was named NEC Pitcher of the Week, the conference announced on Tuesday. This is Zavala's second Pitcher of the Week win this season.

Zavala pitched the last two games of the Stonehill series. In the first game, she threw six innings and collected six strikeouts. She gave up three earned runs and five hits in the Seahawks 13-4 mercy-rule victory.

In the third game of the series, Zavala threw her second consecutive complete game, only giving up one run on one hit in the process. While the Wagner offense scored 15 runs to put the game out of reach by the fifth inning, Zavala kept the Stonehill bats at bay with 13 strikeouts. She also allowed only four walks between the two games.

Additionally, sophomore outfielder Lilly Banse and junior infielder Sydnie Trujillo were named Prime Performers by the conference. In the Stonehill series, Banse had eight hits, including a home run and two doubles, and collected six RBIs. Trujillo picked up six hits and eight RBIs in the series, while coming around to score five times.

The Seahawks return to the diamond on Wednesday, March 18 for a doubleheader against Siena at the Wagner Softball Field. The first game of the twin bill will start at 2 p.m., and the second game will start at approximately 4 p.m.
