STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — The Wagner softball team took the final game of the Stonehill series by a score of 15-1, winning the three-game set after dropping the first contest.
The Seahawks scored a run in the first inning on a throwing error from the catcher, and the Skyhawks answered back in the third inning with an RBI-single. The score remained knotted at one until the fourth inning, when sophomore left fielder
Lilly Banse knocked in a run with her fifth hit of the series.
That would be all the offense junior pitcher
Karson Zavala would need. She only allowed one hit and one run in the complete game performance. She only walked two batters, while collecting a season-high 13 strikeouts.
Throughout Zavala's shutdown performance, the Wagner offense kept scoring, tacking on five runs in the top of the fifth inning. Banse recorded another RBI-single, then freshman second baseman
Zoe Totaro brought her home with a 2-run single of her own. The Seahawks led 7-1 after the inning ended.
Wagner did the most damage in the last inning of the game, as 13 Seahawks batters scored eight runs on nine hits. Banse picked up two more hits and another RBI in the frame, ending the series with eight hits and six RBIs. Junior third baseman
Sydnie Trujillo led the inning off with a solo home run, then smacked a two-run single into left field when her turn came up again. She would finish the three-game series with six hits and eight RBIs.
Zavala finished the game with a groundout, as Wagner wrapped up the 15-1 victory.
The Seahawks will return to the diamond on Wednesday, March 18, as they host Siena for a double header. The first game will start at 2 p.m., and the second game will start at approximately 4 p.m.
